What a great performance by the whole team today. Everyone was a defender when they needed to be. How’s Dean Ashton going to fit into this team, I wonder!! Apart from Parker’s slip early on and LBM’s amazing miss, we had no faults – and even LBM can be forgiven – he was just off the bench. I thought Franko’s choice of formation was a his typical 4-4-2 away formation – probably Clarke’s influence here...

The Daily Mail claim that Celtic want to take West Ham's Craig Bellamy on loan and that West Ham will let him go to get him off the wage bill. The second part of that sentence is the clue that The Daily Mail have moved in with the fairies again. With Dean Ashton out for what looks like most of the season it is incredibly unlikely that West Ham would loan out Bellamy. Mind you when did The Daily Mail...

On the face of it the signing of 32 year old out of contract striker Diego Tristan was a no brainer for Gianfranco Zola, strapped for cash and without the services of Dean Ashton for the considerable future, the Hammers manager had little option other than to sign the Spanish player who once lit up La Liga with his electric performances for Deportivo La Coruna. read more

Various newspapers are reporting that Dean Ashton could be out of action until April after having surgery on his left ankle. Ashton will be on crutches for six weeks. It is hard to know if the rumours are just speculation as the official West Ham website seems to be staying silent over his injury.
