The old Crewe Works' wall...

A friend emailed the blog yesterday disgusted about the graffiti that has appeared on the old Crewe Works' wall, by the junction with Minshull New Road. An eyesore for those who live nearby, but I wonder if the "artists" are aware of the wall's history. There's some great info ( here ) on TimP's Change at Crewe site... . Shining stars on Tree of Light

It's Crewe's Tree of Light ceremony this evening ( Friday 5th December ) at Crewe Cemetery off Badger Avenue. Hundreds of "star" dedications will be lit up as part of a beautiful service that includes carol singing. Yesterday the final preparations were being made for the event that starts after 5pm... . What's On Crewe?

The Christmas Party season is almost upon us and I know a few people at Crewe offices and factories who are out and about on the town from this weekend on. So, what can you see and do? As you'd expect ( hope ) there is a range of entertainment on offer as venues look to grab your pre-Christmas pound. . If it's old-fashioned slapstick in gorgeous surroundings you're after then you could do a lot worse...

Where there's muck there's brass...

Some will start to assume that I have a digger fetish. Maybe I have. Just don't tell Mrs Crewe blog. Still, we like a bit of variety on here so a moment along Victoria Avenue threw up this brief photo moment. Houston & Sons scrap yard, a good earner I'm sure, but would you fancy it in the wind, rain and cold? . Unless otherwise stated, photos copyright of Crewe blog

New pavilion for Queens Park?

We have followed the progress of Queens Park closely on the blog. It's a major asset to the town. When its transformation is complete it will draw thousands of visitors back to Crewe. Seriously. We have been given a sneak preview of how the revamped pavilion/cafe building could look, from the lakeside ( above ) and by the war memorial off the main drive ( below ). A mix of old and new, a bold design...

Skybosh

Walking through Crewe's vibrant and exciting town centre this morning my senses were assailed. Not by the smells from the exotic food stalls (Costa Coffee, McDonalds and Greggs the Bakers) or by the jungle rhythms of our very own Peruvian Indian pan pipe dance troupe (yes, we really do have one but they appear to have gone home), it was something altogether less exciting but very much more sinister....

Hip Hop on Nanny Road

Not everyone's thing, but local hip-hop artist Truth Be Known ( aka Michael Esgate ) could be about to put Crewe on the MTV music map. Clips of Nantwich Road, the Earl pub and local take-aways appear on the new video for his single Boozie Britain . There is an anti-drinking message to the film, but does this kind of project show Crewe in a good light? Take a peep below... .

Toy trains take the high road

LONDON, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- A space-strapped Crewe, England, man said he has set up his model trains where no locomotives have gone before -- the ceiling of his home. Keith Beadle, 73, said he has spent $10,000 patenting his magnet-powered designs for the upside-down model train track and he is now seeking a major manufacturer to mass-produce his idea, The Daily Telegraph reported Tuesday. It is a question...

Areas in need of some TLC...

Following on from Mr Grumpy's item about leaves, alleys and the poor state of certain bits of Crewe ( see a few posts below ), we thought we'd take him up on the offer of highlighting some of the town's grot spots. After all, it could encourage/shame the appropriate people to take some action. First up is the bottom end of Chester Street. An interesting spot, as this should be a building site right...
