The Speaker plans to establish a seven strong committee with four Labour placemen in the majority. A fix in other words. Clegg in the House on the Queens Speech

It was more than a little disappointing that the chamber virtually emptied for Nick Clegg's response and Gordon Brown's obvious indifference to Clegg's remarks was irritating too; however, lets draw out some positives. Finally, we got some acknowledgement that maybe; just maybe the Conservatives have no answers when it comes to civil liberties and a hat-tip to legislation brought in by...

Nick Clegg’s response to the Queen’s Speech

In the debate on the Queen’s Speech, Liberal Democrat Leader Nick Clegg said: "It is on this day that we celebrate our democracy and our most fundamental tradition - scrutinising the Government and holding it to account. "With almost comic timing, the Queen's speech claims that new measures will be taken to ‘strengthen the role of Parliament'. "How on earth can the Government justify a 26th...

From Politics Home ... Mr. Clegg said that the Queen's Speech was a "disappointment" and a "missed opportunity". "I think it's a huge missed opportunity after the year people have had. Nick Clegg: Talking loudly on public transport

Following Nick's being overheard on the flight to Inverness, Danny Finkelstein reminds us that he has previous. In May 2006 Kevin Maguire wrote: That thrusting young Minger Nick Clegg should learn to swivel his head to spy who is sitting within earshot before shouting into a mobile phone about an aged Olympic sprinter off to a poor start. While waiting on Bournemouth station for the London train,...

Three thoughts on Nick Clegg's flight to Inverness

As someone pointed out to me, the Sunday Mirror's exclusive about Nick Clegg slagging off his shadown cabinet colleagues whilst on a flight to Inverness is obviously true. No journalist would go to the trouble of making up a story about people whom most of his readers have never heard of. Nick's comments display a remarkable degree of ingratitude towards Steve Webb. In such a closely fought...
