I would really rather not write about the futility of the Bears last evening, but this is a Chicago-centric blog, and damn it: It’s our duty to give you mediocre commentary. Look: Some were pretty hard on Charles Tillman’s coverage blunder in the first half, the one that lead to a 99-yard touchdown catch by Bernard [...]

Goal-line failure decides Bears' fate, not Tillman's lapse There were four big plays. And all of them happened with Charles Tillman on the sideline. All of them contributed to Bernard Berrian's game-changing 99-yard touchdown reception from Gus Frerotte as much as Tillman's one inexplicable brain spasm. Rick Morrissey: Hard fall with everything at stake Closer look: Four...

Some quick thoughts: - Looked great until we got stuffed at the goal line. Then, 99 yards later, all momentum shifted. - Orton's looked pretty decent tonight. We're dropping a ton of balls. - Forte looks good. - D looked solid early. Now? Not so much. - Charles Tillman....can you seriously not cover Bernard Berrian? - This could get ugly if we don't change some things at half.

... ended in punts. It clearly affected them. I’m not blaming Ron Turner for Kyle Orton’s picks nor Charles Tillman’s wrong read on the Berrian bomb. But 3 runs interior runs on the goal line against the Vikings? In Minnesota? Playing on the road in Minnesota is very difficult. But the Bears blew it, and it was hardcore. Other aggravations: Rashied Davis . 2 memorable drops. On one of...

Bears cornerback Charles Tillman saw tight end Visanthe Shiancoe running up the seam and broke toward the middle of the field. That left Berrian wide open down the left sideline. Frerotte hit him in stride and the speedy Berrian had a clear path to the end zone.

Berrian lined up left and went. Didn't fake, didn't so much as duck his helmet. He just ran, fast. Cornerback Charles Tillman ran with him for a bit, then suddenly cut toward the middle of the field, as though expecting Berrian to run a deep post. As a result, Berrian was wide open when he hauled in the ball at the 47 and completed the longest offensive play in Vikings history.

... in October. But he also threw four interceptions, and that was with Bears starting cornerbacks Charles Tillman and Nathan Vasher out. Frerotte has thrown five picks in the four games since, but his attempts and yards also have declined. Last Sunday, Frerotte threw for a season-low 120 yards in a victory at Jacksonville, and No. 1 receiver Bernard Berrian only had one catch for 6 yards....
