Husband and wife Ministers Ed Balls and Yvette Cooper found themselves at the centre of a controversy in 2005, when they switched their ‘second home’ designation from their house in Castleford – used for their constituencies in West Yorkshire – to their £655,000 London home, to help pay a £438,000 mortgage.
