Cameron White has set his sights on proving his bowling ability with Victoria after being axed from Australia's Test squad. White played all four Tests in the recent series in India but he struggled to have any real impact with the ball and Jason Krejza's stunning 12-wicket debut left White surplus to requirements for Thursday's Gabba Test against New Zealand.

Australia took 2 wickets in the first hour of yesterday's play. For the next 5+ hours, we proceeded to take just one more wicket. A bleak day for Australia's bowlers. Gotta feel for Cameron White - after getting caned, Punter only gave him 4 overs for the whole day. He sure knows how to show faith in his bowlers (I'm remembering 3 overs for Shaun Tait over an entire Ashes Test). How will Day 2 fare?...

The state of Australias bowling is shown through Mitchell Johnson being the leading wicket-taker with eight victims, double that of Brett Lee, Cameron White and Peter Siddle, in the opening two Tests. By the tourists standards Johnson has been a revelation, but by a more traditional measure his overall contribution has been solid.

Cameron White was worn out and relieved at the end of his first Test. There had been no embarrassing two-bounce deliveries or savage treatment from the India batsmen, and he had proved to the team he would be of use during the remaining three matches.

Cameron White's only wicket in 31 overs was the prize of Sachin Tendulkar, who drove to Michael Clarke at cover, but Ponting spotted plenty of promising signs in the performance.

Congrats to Cameron White on his debut. While we all love to see McGain there, it couldn't be, and White was the obvious choice. Ponting showed us today why he is a legend of the game and destined to become it's leading run getter. I have been a bit critical of Ricky Ponting (as a captain, never a batsman) in the past and was even sceptical of his ability to lead Australia out of the current "lull"...

The Australians were going to cap their 402nd Test cricketer today and the choice was between Cameron White and Jason Krejza. Before the start of their warm-up session the players gathered in a circle, along with the coaching staff and chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch, and White was presented with the baggy green.
