St Ives

I'm talking today about the St Ives in Cambridgeshire, not to be confused with the St Ives in Cornwall, Dorset or New South Wales. It's famous for the fifteenth century bridge over the River Great Ouse, which has a chapel of St Leger on the middle. Apparently there are only two other bridge-chapels in England, both in Yorkshire. St Ives is a market town - the nursery rhyme/riddle " As I Was Going to...

Tap dancing along the Tamar

Well walking across a wind swept bridge over looking Tamar lakes & the dam - rather impressive for Cornwall, yeah, Cornwall - though the county of Devon a stones throw from the entrance. There's higher Tamar lakes & lower, but the lower road was flooded, so we took the high road & not the low! (there's a song in there somewhere!) Very freezing cold, windswept day but will definitely be back when the...

One of his senior officers...

Tamar Bridge Truck

WK57BTV is a new Iveco crew cab which is the stand by emergency truck for the Tamar Bridge. It seems to be for emergency maintenance and probably recover too and I am sure its a very handy truck to have around. Its actually part Cornwall County Council fleet as it carries one of their fleet numbers.

Horsebridge

I keep wittering on about this tiny little bridge we use to cross the Tamar from Devon into Cornwall, and this week we went down between None and Vespers to have a proper dovegreyreader-look as opposed to a fleeting-from-the-car-window look....

Justine and Daphne in Fowey

Doesn't Polruan look perfect? Up and out early on a simmeringly hot Devon morning which, just two miles from home, becomes a Cornish morning as I cross the ancient little fifteenth century bridge over the Tamar. There's something innately right about entering Cornwall via Horsebridge . I was parking in Fowey in record time to meet up with Justine Picardie before her event on Daphne and it goes without...
