I'm told Nicklas Backstrom has been named the NHL's first star of the week. In four games, Backstrom had two goals and nine assists to help the Capitals go 3-0-1. Backstrom's linemate, Alex Ovechkin, meantime, was named second star of the week. He had five goals in four games. It wasn't their best effort. In fact, as I wrote this in this morning's Post, the Caps probably didn't deserve anything from last night's 6-5 shootout loss in Newark.
