Hand of Frog, shooting the breeze with the Saracens saffas and Wembley’s biggest fluke. Saracens chief executive Eddie Griffiths must have been feeling pretty sheepish after half-time last Tuesday. The north west club pulled out all the marketing stops, using board member Francois Pienaar to MC the event as well as singer Bok van Blerk to [...]
Oh FFS! Hot on the heels of Invictus about Mandela and Francois Pienaar comes word that Hollywood liberals aren't done with messing in our history. Now we are going to have a movie about the criminal queen bitch of Africa Winnie. Let's hope they get the facts right and don't forget her tender "with our necklaces we shall liberate this country" speech or her kidnapping conviction of Stompie...
Moving on from what I am assured is a big steaming pile of dog waste, Forever Strong, we have a REAL rugby movie being released – Invictus, and man does it have some big names in it. It is the story of the South Africa World Cup told from the perspective of Nelson Mandela (played by Morgan Freeman) and Francois Pienaar (played, oddly, by Matt Damon). I haven’t see it yet, only the trailer...
Invictus tells the inspiring true story of how Nelson Mandela (Morgan Freeman) joined forces with the captain of South Africas rugby team, Francois Pienaar (Matt Damon), to help unite their country. Newly elected President Mandela knows his nation remains racially and economically divided in the wake of apartheid. Believing he can bring his people together through the universal language of sport, Mandela...

A movie directed by Clint Eastwood, telling the story of South Africa's 1995 World Cup triumph and Nelson Mandela's hope that it might unite a nation, has its premiere in the United States next month. In it, a muscled-up Matt Damon plays the role of Francois Pienaar, the Springbok captain. The star of the Bourne trilogy can be relied upon to get the acting right, but at 5ft 10in to Pienaar's 6ft 3in...
I clearly haven't been paying attention. Last I heard this movie was called The Human Factor . It's now called Invictus and, given the subject matter and the fact that Morgan Freeman is in it, has Oscar nomination written all over it. This despite the wholly unconvincing prospect of Matt Damon playing Francois Pienaar with a decidedly dodgy Saffa accent. Here's the trailer:
Matt and historian Howard Zinn attended a free event at New York University on Thursday to promote The People Speak on The History Channel. The photo below and a report is from the NYU News , and another report from a blogger is here . An interview from the Venice Film Festival with Matt in Total Film (UK) magazine's current issue is now available online . One quote: So does it always work that way...
We hear from Jonny Wilkinson and Shaun Edwards as well as Bok legend Frik du Preez and Francois Pienaar on his role in Hollywood's latest rugby blockbuster.
A second still for Invictus has been released as part of a LA Times story on film-making in South Africa. Meanwhile, South African group Overtone recorded all songs for the trailer and have recorded eight songs for the film. Opening next month will be Clint Eastwood's "Invictus," a historical drama about the upset win by South Africa in the 1995 Rugby World Cup, which helped unite blacks...

You may remember the item that appeared about 18 months ago about Matt Damon playing the part of former South African rugby captain François Pienaar in a film to be directed by Clint Eastwood. Well, the film - Invictus - has now been made. Also staring Morgan Freeman its basically about how Nelson Mandella used the 1995 Rugby World Cup to unite South Africa after the end of apartheid, and the...
This movie looks pretty good. I'm not normally a fan of sports movies, but this one I might be interested in seeing. Invictus , directed by Clint Eastwood, tells the story of Nelson Mandela (Morgan Freeman) who joins forces with Francois Pienaar (Matt Damon), the captain of South Africa's rugby team. Mandela believes that the whole world can be united through sports. My favorite shot in this trailer...
The first trailer for Clint Eastwood's Nelson Mandela/apartheid film Invictus is now online, and you can see it below. Morgan Freeman is starring as Mandela, who, freshly elected as the president of South Africa, searches for ways to unite his split country in the wake of apartheid. Figuring that sport can be a universal language , he encourages the captain of the nation's rugby team Francois Pienaar...
