LONDON (Reuters) - American gymnast Morgan Hamm's participation in next month's Beijing Olympics hangs in the balance after he failed a drugs test at a selection event in May, USA gymnastics said on Friday.

Olympic gold medalist Paul Hamm is recovering from his broken hand and can now do gymnastics again. ???I???m very, very encouraged today,??? coach Miles Avery said. ???I can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Wow, I???m finally seeing him do real gymnastics, and it feels good.??? He has been out of action since May 22 when he broke his hand in the parallel bars at the national championships.

Manchester United have released five youngsters as Sir Alex Ferguson starts preparing his squad for another assault on the game's top honours.
