West Ham are never more vulnerable than when five up. That is saying something. Four times this season they have failed to win after leading, three of them from two ahead. Jermain Defoe, initially one of theirs, would have taken them past their league record of eight in the final quarter. Instead they conceded one, went twitchy in tune with fans eerily quietened and ended up trying to bin the negatives....

An impressive first-half display by West Ham proved too much for Burnley whose woeful form away from home continues. The result was so emphatic the West Ham manager Zola Gianfranco was able to take off Cartlon Cole at half-time with his team leading 3-0. It all started when Jack Collison capitalised on some static defending to race onto Scott Parker's free-kick and fire the Irons ahead on 18 minutes....

Phil Brown may ponder how much more joyous life on the Humber would feel if Jimmy Bullard had only kept his knee uninjured seconds into his debut last January, eliminating him from the Hull manager's plans until last month. Even then the midfielder's return stalled before Bullard's second coming a fortnight ago preceded the 31-year-old's late, late free-kick that forced an invaluable winner here against...

Both sides have again missed out on the big tournament and this game is seen as a chance for John Toshack and Craig Burley to test some new players with a view of building a team for the Euro 2012 qualifiers. A clash between home nations is always full of passion and excitement and this one should be no different. Depleted Wales hoping for a good result John Toshack has some extremely talented players...

West Ham finally got their second win of the season with a last minute Zavon Hines' equaliser. It was a match that Villa lost rather than West Ham winning it. Nevertheless, the spirit and determination of Zola's men cannot be faulted and definitely this must spur the Hammers to climb up the Premiership table. In truth, West Ham have not played significantly badly and if there was any case for being...

Today's rumours have a red-hot date with AZ Alkmaar A decent crop of pre-window rumours this morning. In today's Sun vaguely frighteningly-looking attacking left-sided defender Andrea Dossena could be on his way back to either Serie A, or the sun-worshipping lost society inside a South American volcano that spawned him. Jermaine Jenas says he's going to get Spurs into the Champions League and also...

For lack of anything better to do on a lazy, rainy Sunday afternoon, I thought I would calculate the averge player performances over the first twelve games of the season. I had imagined Carlton Cole would have topped the chart, but no, it’s Jack Collison. Well done to Jack! I have only included players [...]

I have to say I am astonished Jack Collison was so low. After Cole, I’d have said he and Behrami were the two best players, although I have no complaints about Diamanto and Hines being so high, seeing as their introduction changed the game. Cole, at 8.53, got one of the highest ever ratings.
