Baggies boss Tony Mowbray handed full league debuts to summer signings Scott Carson, Abdoulaye Meite and Marek Cech for the season opener at Arsenal. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger handed a league debut to his £12 million summer signing Samir Nasri. Mowbray gave Ishmael Miller the huge task of playing the lone striker role as the Baggies lined up 4-5-1.
