Blackburn Rovers stepped up their efforts to sign Paul Robinson from Tottenham Hotspur last night after accepting a bid from Aston Villa for Brad Friedel, the former United States goalkeeper. Villa have agreed to pay a fee in the region of £2million for Friedel, but the deal will not be rubber-stamped until Blackburn have signed a replacement, with Robinson the preferred choice of Paul Ince.
