The Tribunale rejected the recommendation of CONI, which called for a reduction of Riccò's sanction to 20 months. The Italian Olympic body, CONI, reduced the doping part of the ban by six months from the maximum two years. But it also added six months because Ricco had gone to a physician who had already been banned for doping violations, Carlo Santuccione.

A Spanish cyclist, Maria Isabel Moreno, became the first person at the Beijing Olympics to test positive for a banned substance . It's cycling, so no shocker that the banned substance was Epo. No word on whether it is the new type of Epo called CERA that Riccardo Ricco tested positive for in the Tour de France. Anyway, I wrote a big post on Epo that has all I want to say on the matter. Many of those involved in cycling have been critical of the doping tests. The guilty, of course, have pleaded that the process is sloppy and the labs corrupt, but others who haven't been accused of anything have agreed.
