from Eric Duhatschek of the Globe and Mail, • The St. Louis Blues’ Paul Kariya, coming off surgery on both his hips last season, scored two goals in his first game of the season – over in Sweden, against the Detroit Red Wings – and had a respectable five points in his first six games, but has been in a dismal slump ever since and thus far has managed zero points in November....

Photographic proof that Kevin Martin and Jason Thompson could not throw a ball into the ocean last night. Disclosure #1 – I did not get to see all of last night’s 97-92 loss to the New Orleans Hornets . Disclosure #2 – I have not had the opportunity to study all of the subtle nuances that usually shape the outcome of a game. But I did cull this subtle little nugget – Kevin Martin...

- You know the hockey world is upside down when the Phoenix Coyotes are not only tough to beat, but almost impossible to score against. Ilya Bryzgalov leads the league with a 1.14 GAA, a .953% and is 5-1. He was recently named the NHL's first star of the week. This won't last forever, but if you own Bryzgalov ride it out as long as you can, maybe even do a little bit of selling high. (Photo by AP)...

Ryan Smyth, Jack Johnson and Anze Kopitar celebrate after Smyth scored a goal against the Minnesota Wild at Staples Center. AP Photo/Jason Redmond With all the troubles the Kings have had in penalty killing at home, no one would have said last season that they could shoot their way past their problems. The Kings have ratcheted up the offense scoring 19 goals in five games thanks in large part to a...

from Pierre LeBrun of ESPN, We’re five games into the season, and you start to see what Dean Lombardi was thinking. The Los Angeles Kings GM believed the window was opening for his up-and-coming club this past summer, so he sprinkled in a pair of veterans into the lineup in the hope they would help get the team over the hump. There’s lots of hockey to be played, but defenseman Rob Scuderi,...

Every year, one or two promising restricted free agents have not signed new contracts when training camp opens up. This is a very poor method to run a hockey team. These young players are the future of the franchise and potential future stars who are being alienated because they have very little leverage in contract negotiations. Last year, the Los Angeles Kings did this with Patrick O’Sullivan....
