The teams enter this local derby in different mood and we are yet to see if that will give the upper hand to one of the sides. Wolves are sitting in the relegation zone after two straight defeats, whereas Birmingham are in much better position after beating Fulham last weekend. Seven games without a win The good start of the season was followed by the big dip in from that saw Wolves pick up just three...

The first world ranking staged in China was in 1990. The second was in 1999. But in the 2000s, China’s place as a central powerbase for snooker was cemented, largely due to the exploits of one of its own sons. Ding Junhui was invited to the 2002 China Open in Shanghai as a 14 year-old wildcard. He had been identified as a promising up-and-comer in the Chinese junior ranks and took two frames...

Earlier in the week I wrote an article in the Morning Star for the end of immigration controls . Often this is called 'no borders' although I deliberately steered clear of using the jargon. I never thought I'd see the day when the Phoenix sent four players - joint-most with the Scimitars - to the U20s, but I'm chuffed we have so yay. All are thoroughly deserving of the honour, and while its surprising to many...
