Right now, Nasa is studying the designs for the next generation of human occupied space vehicles. The Altair lunar lander, now in its third design iteration, will undergo changes based on the studies here, and eventually go into production and be used in the next generation of spaceflight.
Our colleague at CNET News, Daniel Terdiman, has used NASA's Moon-landing simulator and written a long piece about how awesome it was. We're not at all jealous
Inside the massive Vertical Motion Simulator at NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, Calif., engineers test designs for next-generation lunar landers.

Many things remain unknown about Sweden’s nuclear programme, especially why it was suddenly discontinued. It is interesting to note, of course, that the US intelligence community estimated that Sweden was on its way to the weapon up until 1964. Later intelligence assessments are considerably more cautious. That’s probably because our American cousins knew that Sweden wasn’t seeking...

They're back! Get ready to stalk Twi-Hards of El Lay county! Last night, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson returned to California after two weeks of worldwide press promotion for The Twilight Saga: New Moon. It more than paid off at the box office, but what kind of toll has it taken on our favorite vamp and his [...]
I’ve read other memoirs by the Apollo astronauts who went to the Moon, most of whom wrote about their tremendous efforts to become space jocks and their stories always peaked with their lunar adventures. Buzz Aldrin second autobiographical book starts with the Apollo 11 landing and quickly wraps that adventure up, because his book is [...]

I remember back when I was in high school and Apollo 11 landed on the moon. Neil Armstrong proclaimed this to be a giant step for mankind, and it truly was. Now, we need to take another giant step for mankind, and for this one, we don't have to leave the planet.
If you had asked me at age ten what I was going to do with my life, I would have said that I was going to study math and astrophysics at MIT, join the Air Force, log my required flight hours, and after that, become an astronaut when I grew up. That is the power of childhood heroes. None of that has happened (yet), but I can't blame Montclair's hometown hero Buzz Aldrin for that, and reading his new...
I have just watched the liftoff of the space shuttle Atlantis’ on mission STS-129 to the International Space Station. I’ve been watching rocket and shuttle launches since I was a little girl, and it always gives me a huge thrill. I’m not sure exactly which launch was the first one I watched, but I vividly remember sitting with my Mom and Dad in front of our black and white television...
My life, as reflected in these posts, has been very Glass/ Orphée centric over the last month. For me it has been a time of searching and discovery, of excitement, and of joy at making new friends. And now, it's over. There would be a sense of let-down were it not for the fact that I have found a new enthusiasm for opera. My dear friend Lea was upbraiding me recently when I was grumbling about...
I'm going a little rogue with this morning's Daily TwitPic. Warmoth's pick last Friday featured "Star Trek: The Next Generation" star LeVar Burton (the guy with the eye visor thing) posing for a photo op with Neil Armstrong, the first man to set foot on the moon. Of course, the importance of Armstrong's new moon [...]
Someone on the LA County Board of Supervisors must know something the rest of us don't. Can it be a coincidence that the same week they name Buzz Aldrin "Honorary Consul General to the Moon from Los Angeles County," NASA announces they've found water on the moon? [LAT, NASA]
Speaking of the Moon, the LRO snapped a new picture of Apollo 11 landing site from its orbital perch 50km above the surface. Previously . Tags: Apollo Apollo 11 Moon NASA space
