Verizon tried a Times Square promotion for its Droid smartphone on Nov. 6, the same day as the devices release. Despite the small number of people who turned out for the event, Verizon and Google are hoping that the Android-powered smartphone will attract massive amounts of customers, and justify pre-release advertising that positioned the Droid as a robust competitor to Apple's iPhone....
