Two Gubernatorial victories, two congressional defeats, and Republican gains across the Nation, all lead up to the special United States Senate election in the deep blue state of Massachusetts. While the Massachusetts legislature just had to replace Kennedy in the United States Senate immediately, in violation of a law previously passed which required a special election...

Stu Rothenberg has published an update on next year's Senate elections. And as you can see as of now it looks like the situation is pretty much status quo . It's astonishingly difficult in America for an incumbent member of Congress to be defeated--they are traditionally re-elected at a roughly 95% plus clip due to their structural advantages, which include money, money, money...um,...

Yeah, OK, now what? First, it was not a bipartisan bill - no Republicans voted for it sans John Cao from Louisiana (this is an update - see comment). Remember how Reagan always got dems to vote along? Obama has underscored his divisive nature. The high he gets will be short lived. The Senate still faces a cloture vote. If 15% of the House dems voted against this, that would be 9 dem Senators...

Every election day, I’m reminded of how silly it is that we vote on Tuesdays. Why is it that election day is the “first Tuesday after the first Monday” of November? In 1845, before Florida, California, and Texas were states or slavery had been abolished, Congress needed to pick a time for Americans to vote. We were [...]
