Has anybody seen this new show Flash Forward ? It's the show where everybody in the world faints for a two minutes and they see a vision six months in the future. I've heard of it but never seen it. At some point, Padres ownership — whether brand new or not — must realize that the message it continues to send to its fans is that it is cheap and unwilling to do what’s necessary to foot the bill for a contending product....
As expected, the San Diego Padres today named Jed Hoyer as the team's new executive vice president/general manager. Hoyer, 35, who has been an assistant GM for the Boston Red Sox, was introduced at a news conference at PetcoPark.
Here's a word of warning to you if you're slinging guns or laying pipe in and around PetcoPark: Clear outta town because there's a storm coming. (Listen to this while you read the rest of this post and think of good comments). I'll be honest with you. I never quite understood what Grady Fuson was doing here. As I said many years ago: Grady Fuson wants to create a "draft pipeline"...
Jed Hoyer, an assistant general manager with the Boston Red Sox, has been hired as the new general manager of the San Diego Padres and will be introduced Monday at PetcoPark, according to Union-Tribune sources.
... Demaio asking tough questions of whether library funds could be instead be used to pay down the PetcoPark debt , and Tony Young wanting to ensure that local construction companies get the work. In the end, the council voted 6-2 in favor of keeping the library project moving. During the public comment session, it was humbling to hear people speak. There was SDPL Foundation's Chair...
... 619 Sports caught up with the new GM afterwards to ask about his goals in tailoring the Padres to PetcoPark, the challenges of moving from the Red Sox to a mid-market team, and his plans for the current front office: Friar John's Blog: Hoyer on board as Padres GM, eager to work Hoyer said the Padres were one of the teams he was assigned to know in and out as part of his Red Sox duties....
... always has been a fan of Gonzalez and has noted that he would be a great fit for Fenway Park because he hits the ball the other way with power.Wearing the other hat yesterday, Hoyer emphasized that he wants to build a team that’s best-suited for spacious PetcoPark, which means building pitching and defense. Does Gonzalez fit what Hoyer would be trying to do?“What is there...
... the city's $1.1?billion general fund, which pays for daily operations such as fire, police and parks. DeMaio said the city should redirect redevelopment funds set aside for the library to cover the annual costs of the city's debt service on PetcoPark and the Convention Center. That would free money in the general fund to help solve the city's projected budget deficit of $179...
... declared Monday afternoon, “then it can't be done.” Though his introductory news conference at PetcoPark was characterized by sweeping praise and broad generalities, Jed Hoyer is known as a stickler for specifics, a detail-driven dynamo respected for the depth of his quantitative analysis and renowned for his 4 a.m. printing projects at Kinko's. If he can't fix the Padres, this 35-year-old...
... roster in that their ballpark is so unique. Sure, it will be difficult to lure top hitters to PetcoPark, but the Padres aren't going to be bidding for them very often anyway. San Diego will remain a terrific destination for starters and relievers looking to revive their careers, so the Padres should be focusing more on offense in the draft. Some will wonder why the Padres didn't go...
