As a swarm of fans rushed their home field, Fort Osage football coach Ryan Schartz addressed his charged-up team. This wouldn’t be a long speech. A $25,000 grant from Jackson County will pay for field trips to Science City at Union Station for 4,000 public school students. The Independence, Kansas City, Center, Hickman Mills, Fort Osage, Grandview and Raytown school districts qualify on a first-come, first-served basis.
