Earlier in the Hot Stove season, when everyone thought we might be trying to do things that would make our club better, there was a lot of discussion about whether or not Miguel Tejada needed an adequate platoon to ensure that he got more days off. I've always been a little skeptical of that prognostication, but I wanted to put some numbers to the idea and see what stuck. You can find...

Miguel Tejada. Photo by Greg Nelson/Sports Illustrated The Astros traded for star shortstop Miguel Tejada last December only a day before baseball's Mitchell Report named Tejada as a past steroid user. Now the Astros are reportedly trying to trade Tejada. But interested teams should know there could be another surprise in Tejada's future. Tejada...

Yahoo's Jeff Passan talked to one GM who said the Astros are pushing Miguel Tejada hard. Problem is, there are no apparent suitors right now. Also, while Ed Wade will make every effort not to trade Jose Valverde, he wouldn't rule it out.

According to Ken Rosenthal, the Astros are willing to trade Miguel Tejada, and teams are interested in him as a shortstop and third baseman. Rosenthal figures the Twins, Dodgers, Giants, and Angels could be matches. He adds that the Astros realize they'd have to eat some of Tejada's $13MM for '09. Rosenthal says the Astros are not inclined to trade closer Jose Valverde.

I'm exhausted and cranking out final papers like it's my job, but here are the relevant quotes: From Ken Rosenthal: Shortstop Miguel Tejada is another story. The Astros are willing to trade him, and are drawing interest from several teams, including some with openings at both shortstop and third base. The Twins and Dodgers fit that description. The full story says we're really not willing...

According to Phil Miller of the St. Paul Pioneer Press: Can’t vouch for its veracity – not sure I really believe it myself -- but I just heard in the gossip scrum that is forming at the edge of the Bellagio lobby that there was at least a phone call between the Astros and Twins regarding Miguel Tejada, the long-ago MVP shortstop. Coming from a "gossip scrum," it's hard to know what to...

Miguel Tejada is not what the Twins need. He is old and takes steroids. One might argue that if he still took them, he'd be exactly what the Twins needed! You're right, though, he isn't really the answer we need. My concern is that the player the Twins need, a young SS with power and a solid glove, isn't really out there. Rafael Furcal is close, but with his contract demands and injury history, I can't...

Tim Dierkes threw this idea out for the Dodgers in one of his posts today over at MLBTraderumors : trade for Miguel Tejada to fill their gap at 3B . Apparently the Bums are not too keen on giving Casey Blake a three year contract, and Blake DeWitt (ZIPS Projection: .713 OPS, 16 HR) and Nomar (.754 OPS, 9 HR) aren't exactly the kind of thick, cuddly security blankets that make you feel...

Yesterday, HLP jumped on a juicy Tim Dierkes non-rumor rumor about Miguel Tejada's potential fit with the Dodgers. Today, in her GM Meeting preview , Footer makes it clear that Ed Wade is seeking someone to lighten the load for Tejada at SS, which to me signals the lack of desire/thought towards attempting to off-load Tejada's slumping production and contract. I guess we...

... of players that should produce more than they did in 2008. On the offensive side of the ball, Miguel Tejada, J.R. Towles, and Michael Bourn should all produce better seasons. In particular, Towles could be the key to this whole season. Luckily for us, readership of this column doesn't exactly equal the Chronicle. Towles doesn't want to hear that and really shouldn't. Still, he might...
