Livan Hernandez? Livan Hernandez?

Livan Hernandez? Livan Hernandez? Per Nick Piecoro, "The only thing we can give you at this point in the day is a fifth-starter possibility: familiar face Livan Hernandez. We’ve heard the Diamondbacks are considering bringing him back, most likely more for his role in the clubhouse and how he can help young players than for his potential performance."...

Diamondbacks Looking At Hernandez?

Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports that the Diamondbacks may be interested in free agent right-hander Livan Hernandez. The 35-year-old posted a 5.44 ERA in 31 starts with the Mets and Nationals last season, but as Piecoro notes, Hernandez's primary role in Arizona would be to serve as both a positive clubhouse influence and to eat some innings at the back of the rotation....

Discussion: Livan Hernandez

According to Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com's Twitter page, "Livan Hernandez's agent says his client 'would be interested in returning to the Nationals.'" Hernandez's agent said the Nationals also like Hernandez. It does raise the question: should they? Hernandez got off to a strong start with the Mets in 2009, but was released after tossing 135 innings with...

Nationals Do Not Offer Arbitration On Free Agents

Bill Ladson of MLB.com (via Twitter) reports that Washington has declined to offer arbitration to free agents Livan Hernandez, Austin Kearns, Dmitri Young, Josh Bard and Ron Villone. None of the five players were ranked as Type A or Type B free agents, so the Nationals weren't entitled to any compensation had any of the five turned down an arbitration offer and then signed elsewhere.

... been "durable." They seem to be operating out of fear of repeating last year's fluke. Livan Hernandez is durable. That should not be a reason to get Pineiro. Joe Janish says the Mets should take a look at Ruben Gotay again for their backup infielder spot . FanGraphs highlights Gotay as well. Ted Berg loves prospectss . The extra s is for savings. ... coverage of the event. Which is what I'm about to do anyway. We're still kicking the tires on Livan Hernandez , but might also be looking at Randy Wolf ; the team is interested in bringing back Augie Ojeda ; it's not going to be easy to trade Chris Snyder . Yeah, like I said: not much there worth starting the presses for, never mind stopping them. Still, after the jump, I'll unleash...

Starting Pitchers: Damaged Goods Available

... few years. Do your ears still flush red when you think of Ramon Ortiz and Sidney Ponson ? Or maybe Livan Hernandez still has you a bit baffled? Those moves, at the time, were railroaded for the quality of the player rather than the organization's decision to bring in veteran help, although there was also a strong belief that a rotation centered around Johan Santana , Francisco Liriano...

D'Backs Search For Pitching

... You can check our free agent list to see all the types. Piecoro wouldn't be surprised to see Livan Hernandez return as the D'Backs' fifth starter. He wouldn't be the main rotation pickup; the bigger targets are probably Randy Wolf, Jason Marquis, and Brad...

Realistic Free Agent Options: Third Base Projecting...

Realistic Free Agent Options: Third Base Projecting which free agents the Twins will go after is difficult because their pursuit of low-cost options depends upon how the market shakes out and who drops into their price range. In the past five years they've also wasted money on a lengthy list of washed-up veterans like Tony Batista , Livan Hernandez , Ramon Ortiz , Craig Monroe , Juan...
