A multiple-car pileup snarled traffic in Lenexa this evening. Just after 5:15 p.m., a series of two or three accidents happened on Kansas 10 at Renner Road, according to Lenexa police dispatchers. Authorities shut one eastbound lane. No serious injuries were reported.

Federal prosecutors have charged a Shawnee husband and wife with poisoning the salsa at the Mi Ranchito restaurant in Lenexa. Arnoldo Bazan, 30, and Yini De La Torre, 19, are accused of mixing a pesticide into the salsa that sickened a dozen customers on Aug. 12.

When the pesticide methomyl is sprayed on crops, farm workers aren’t supposed to step back into the fields for up to a week. It’s dangerous, potentially deadly stuff and, according to federal prosecutors, it is the poison a Shawnee couple chose to exact revenge against one of the owners of the Mi Ranchito restaurant in Lenexa.
