Laynce Nix Elects Free Agency

Outfielder Laynce Nix has been outrighted by the Reds and elected free agency, according to MLB.com's Mark Sheldon. Nix was considered a non-tender candidate, as the Reds have plenty of outfield candidates already. In a few weeks they must decide whether to tender Jonny Gomes a contract (seems like a good idea to me). Nix, 29, received the most playing time of his career since 2004 this year....

Laynce Nix a free agent, Daryl Thompson outrighted off 40-man roster

Laynce Nix a free agent, Daryl Thompson outrighted off 40-man roster Mark Sheldon tweets it. I think we all expected Nix to get nixed with so many better, cheaper options, and Thompson shouldn't be a surprise either. Dude's been riddled with injuries. Remember his debut at Yankee Stadium though? That was awesome. MLBTraderumors also says Craig Tatum was claimed off waivers by the Orioles. Plenty...

Reds Notes: Jocketty, Nix, Gomes

John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer gathered a few bits of information Saturday from Reds general manager Walt Jocketty: The Reds have made an offer to Laynce Nix, who was outrighted off the 40-man roster this week and elected free agency. Jocketty believes he "may take it" but first wants to "see what's out there." Jocketty believes the Reds will be able to "get something...

Plenty of transactions for Reds

John Fay believes after all the Reds' moves today, the team will offer Jonny Gomes arbitration. If they weren't, they could have done what they did with Laynce Nix and kept Daryl Thompson.

Weekend Mug (of tea)

... waivers, designate Jeff Karstens for assignment. No word if Dave Kerwin is behind the move. Reds : Laynce Nix has elected free agency. Royals : Pitchers Doug Waechter and Devon Lowery have refused assignment and become free agents. The non-notable 40-man additions before the deadline are over at Baseball America's Prospect Blog . It's been a slow weekend for Brewers news. If you're not inclined...

Oh no!

Kip Wells is gone! The sky is falling! Wells is the only Red to file for free agency, but the Reds still have some decisions to make. They’ve already made the questionable decision to bring back Ramon Hernandez. Next up: Jonny Gomes and Laynce Nix. Should the Reds bring either of these guys back? You know I [...]

Path of the Pros: Nelson Cruz

What do Jorge Velandia, Keith Ginter and Laynce Nix have in common? All three were traded at one point for eventual All-Star slugger Nelson Cruz.

Red Reposter - Where Were You When You Heard The Reds Re-signed Ramon Hernandez?

... Hernandez will prohibit the team from signing a LF He says Jonny Gomes is the better choice over Laynce Nix (duh), but "you have to wonder if catcher Ramon Hernandez 's re-signing on Monday for one year at $3 million takes away some of the dollars for left field." He says there are other in-house options, but gives the impression that Gomes would be the superior choice. Matthew...

Reds 2009 Rule 5 Reserve List

... additional minor league players. They could make space by removing Willy Taveras, Craig Tatum, and Laynce Nix from the roster, and protecting additional arms (like Enerio Del Rosario, Alex Smit, and Ben Jukich) or another bat like Daniel Dorn. Check back here for updates when the Reds release their 2009 reserve list.

Reds Rumors: Taveras, Owings, Gomes

... also valuable out of the bullpen or as a pinch-hitter. Sheldon thinks that between Jonny Gomes and Laynce Nix , Gomes has "the better chance" of being offered arbitration. If neither man is brought back, Cincinnati will turn to a variety of in-house options for the left field job, including Wladimir Balentien , Chris Dickerson or prospects Juan Francisco, Chris Heisey and Todd Frazier. Sheldon...

Red Reposter - How Much Do You Want Ramon Hernandez Back?

... Nick Masset and Jared Burton are eligible for arbitration this winter as Super-Twos Jonny Gomes , Laynce Nix , and Corky Miller are also arb eligible. Fay says Masset and Burton are "locks" to be offered arbitration, and Gomes is iffy. Micah Owings just missed Super Two status by a few games. The Fay has been doing Q's and A's for the past week or so and they make for good reading....
