by: John Yan NEWS - Yes, the studios may have shut its doors but the brand name will go on at EA and they've already announced a new game in development. Mercs Inc is the working title of the next Pandemic Studios game but it's a little hollow as all the people are gone now. While the brand name will go on, it's a little sad to see that a game using their IP and their studio name won't be made...
by: John Yan NEWS - Take a look at Razer's new Imperator mouse. See anything special? Besides the usual high speed laser engine and teflon feet, the side buttons can now slide and lock into various positions. Now, you'll probably only do this once and be done with it but that's cool to let you customize where the side buttons are. One of the things about playing on the PC is you want the most...
by: John Yan NEWS - One of the things touted when talking to Bigfoot Networks was a Dashboard program for their line of Killer Nic cards to give you some visual data on how things were operating as well as offering some control over your card. Well, the download is finally here so you can have at it if you own one of their cards. Some of the features available are: Real-time status of FPS (with...
by: John Yan NEWS - If you're going to be at I/ITSEC, be sure to stop by the AMD booth when you are down there. From November 30th to December 3rd, you'll get to see stuff like 9 monitors being driven by an ATI FirePro S400 Synchronization Module and an Eyefinity example. Multiple monitors seem to be a big driver for AMD these days and you'll see on hand how it will handle rendering and syncing...
by: John Yan NEWS - The Source engine can be pretty flexible and here's an example of it. Check out this remake of the first Contra level using the the Source engine. I've also attached a video of a Castlevania and Super Mario Bros. remake after the break. Someone make a Double Dragon one for me please. Thanks Digg .
by: John Yan NEWS - If you need to run a video a long ways away to a display from your computer, StarTech's line of VGA Video over Cat 5 items might be your best bet. Working up to 950 feet, you need one transmitter and one receiver as well as a Cat 5 wire to connect the two. Build these into the walls and you're good to go. One caveat is that each of the transmitters and receivers looks like...
by: John Yan NEWS - Well, maybe the next PlayStation will have a Cell as the brains after all. Drive Heaven contacted IBM and a spokesperson said that only one CPU development cycle has been halted. Plans for for other CPUs in the Cell processor family are still going on. Contrary to what's been reported earlie r, it might be that the PlayStation 4 will go on as planned with a new Cell processor....
by: John Yan NEWS - Now, I'm not a big fan of avatars on the Xbox 360 but I have to admit this is kind of cool since I'm such a big Fallout 3 fan. You can purchase some Fallout gear to deck out your avatar this Turkey Day with clothing and even a Vault boy bobble head. I actually have that Vault 101 shirt from an E3 that's on the right end there. Too bad there's not a bundle to grab them all...
by: John Yan NEWS - Hot on the heels of the news that Diablo III won't be coming out until at least 2011, we get this tweet saying that the skill trees are being removed for another system. Yes, those beloved skill trees you see in a lot of games won't be making it in the third Diablo game so that begs the question, what will there be to replace it? I'm more disappointed in the news of the game's...
by: John Yan NEWS - Capcom just can't seem to keep leaks about Super Street Fighter IV under wraps until they announce them these days can they? Well Siliconera has scans of the latest Famitsu magazine with pictures of Adon, Guy, and Cody in the game. I know of Guy and Cody from Final Fight more so than Street Fighter even though the two have appeared one of the games. Adon I played maybe once...
by: John Yan NEWS - The PlayStation 3 uses the much hyped Cell processor but that processor could be dying a quick death. IBM was one of the partners that developed the CPU but they are pulling out. Also, the VIP has stated that the next iteration of the Cell is now canceled. With that news, that begs the question as which CPU the PlayStation 4 would go with. Now, it's probably going to be a...
by: John Yan NEWS - My review is almost done for Left 4 Dead II but one of the things that really stands out in the game is how bad the AI is. I mean the AI was pretty dumb in the first game but more so in the second one. I rarely ever play with AI but below is something that will leave you yearning for even the worst L4D player if you are alone on a server.
by: John Yan NEWS - If you haven't played all of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 , then you probably don't know why this is the quickest and best speed run of the game. If you have though, enjoy and see how you could have saved the Russians from going to war with the U.S. If I was Infinity Ward, I would've programmed an Easter Egg in this one for what you see.
by: John Yan NEWS - You can't always work with a company forever even if it's a company like Nintendo. Denise Kaigler is the VP of Corporate Affairs but that title will be no longer as she's leaving the company . She was with the company for two years starting in 2008. It's tough though if you live in New England and is asked to travel all around the world as she has done over the two years...
by: John Yan NEWS - One of the great things about playing on the PC is being able to extend a life of game via mods and hacks. It's one of the reasons why I usually pick up a PC version of a multi-platform game. Which is why I always enjoy things like this when it comes out and it makes me do a little experimenting. If you own both Left 4 Dead games like I do, there's a way to incorporate the...
