Via Slyde, I see this in-depth look at the pitching mechanics of Homer Bailey. I don’t really know what to make of it, but it’s interesting nonetheless. Especially this part: Homer Bailey is a textbook example of how not to throw a baseball, right up there with Anthony Reyes, B.J. Ryan, and Mark Prior. Ouch.

There's a report out there that Homer Bailey has been dealt to the Chicago White Sox for Jermaine Dye... Interesting for a couple of reasons...first, because Bailey has been talked about as a possible target for the Rangers in Gerald Laird trade talks. Second, because Josh Hamilton was supposedly dealt last year around this time because the Reds had plenty of outfielders and needed...

Reds manager Dusty Baker hasn't seen Homer Bailey at his best. After all, Bailey went 0-6 with a 7.93 ERA for the Reds last season. But he understands why Bailey's name keeps coming up in trade rumors.

[ED: And now there's a report out stating the previous report is bull. Making the following analysis irrelevant. Yay!] Bailey went from one of the shining stars of Cincy's future to being dealt for a 35 year old corner outfielder, odd. Kenny Williams continues his run of off-season trading, and chalks up his first clear victory to go along with a questionable Nick Swisher move and the Javier...

According to Hal McCoy of the Dayton Daily News, a Major League source told him a Homer Bailey for Jermaine Dye trade "is done and will be announced this week." It'd essentially be six years of Bailey for one of Dye (plus possible draft pick compensation), as Dye has a mutual option for 2010 at $12MM. Those almost never get fully exercised - if one side wants it, the other doesn't....

I'm not that good at handicapping trades right after they happened -- I'm really more of a hindsight guy -- but my sense of this is that the Reds may have gotten the better end of the Homer Bailey for Jermaine Dye deal . This may sound surprising in that, generally speaking, trading a 22 year-old pitching prospect for an aging corner guy with a dreadful glove usually constitutes malpractice....
