Houston oil field services company FMC Technologies Inc. is buying nearly half of California robotics firm Schilling Technologies, which specializes in remotely operated vehicles and manipulator systems used in underwater oil and gas production, the companies said today.

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- FMC Technologies Inc. said Friday it will acquire a 45% interest in Schilling Robotics LLC for $116 million in a transaction expected to close no later than Dec. 31.
