Royals second baseman Alberto Callaspo, the subject of offseason trade rumors, was honored Friday afternoon as this year’s winner of the Joe Burke Special Achievement Award. The Burke Award is named in honor of the club’s former general manager and president. It dates to 1971 and has evolved in recent years to a way of recognizing a player who is not selected as the club’s...

An emerging scenario has Getz replacing Callaspo as the starting second baseman, with veteran Willie Bloomquist available if Getz, a left-handed hitter, struggles against left-handed pitchers. Fields would become the starting third baseman, with Alex Gordon shifting to first base and Billy Butler drawing increased duty as the designated hitter. A lefty-righty platoon could develop since Fields...

Royals second baseman Alberto Callaspo fell five days short of qualifying for arbitration under the labor agreement’s super-2 provision. That figures to cost him several hundred thousands of dollars. Third baseman Alex Gordon, as expected, was one of 10 players who qualified for arbitration under the provision. The list was announced Wednesday.

Rumor: Callaspo to LA for a 28 year old backup catcher AJ Ellis I can't even believe I wrote those words. YES! Let's cash in one of the better offensive players we have to plug a defensive hole with a stopgap!!! I CAN'T WAIT!! http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=ellis-001and His minor league stats don't look terrible, and he is a Missouri native (Cape Girardeau), but I think...

... retirement. Dick Kaegal of MLB.com hasn't heard anything that substantiates rumors of an Alberto Callaspo-A.J. Ellis swap between the Royals and Dodgers. Evan Brunell of The Hardball Times is "horrified" that the Phillies are considering Placido Polanco for their third base opening....

... pretty impressive for a rookie, the most encouraging statistic is the bold portion above. Alberto Callaspo was probably the worse defensive second baseman in the American League last year. He's replaced with Getz, who was ranked pretty high in the statistic on the positive side.

... thing out of his control is pretty much what will determine his RBI total. Stick Mark Teahen/DDJ/Callaspo/Olivo/Buck/Gordon in Guillen’s spot in the lineup and all of them would do the same or outproduce him given the same circumstances, let’s take a look at 2008 (Guillen’s “good” season): Teahen: .255, 15 homers, with Guillen’s 303 runners on = 92 RBIz...

... but the hot stove is already bubbling. One rumor to watch: A deal sending second baseman Alberto Callaspo to the Los Angeles Dodgers for catcher A.J. Ellis, a 28-year-old rookie who currently projects as a backup to Russell Martin following the anticipated free-agent departure of veteran Brad Ausmus. I'm not a huge fan of Callaspo, but he is a good player. In 2009, at age 26, he put...

Word . Matt (Kansas City) Are AJ Elli's on-base skills going to remain in the big leagues with his lack of speed and power? Klaw (1:53 PM) No. You don't want him for Callaspo. I'm busy with football on the weekends nowadays, but i'll have a AFL update and the offseason plan starting next week.

The big news in Royalsville are the DeJesus rumors and the announcement that Alberto Callaspo did not qualify for arbitration as a Super Two. Expect Moore to get great anti-value for these guys any day now. The little news, but maybe a growing meme, is the Mike Moustakas weight gain. Sickels brought back a negative report from Arizona, and I've seen at least one other reference as well. If you're...

I've been looking at Alberto Callaspo 's UZR numbers and I've got some questions about how to use UZR to project for the coming year. Fangraphs has been reviewing the best fielders from 07-09--pointing out that one season of UZR is equivalent to about 1/3 season of batting (in other words, it takes 3 seasons of UZR to have a good grasp on a players ability. Last year Callaspo was not...

... DeWitt or we trade for a 2nd baseman. I don't believe for a 2nd the rumor of AJ Ellis for Alberto Callaspo but I'd make that trade in heartbeat. The rotation is tricky, I'd love to take chances on the great arms of Bedard, Harden, or Sheets but after the Schmidt fiasco I can't picture Ned going that route. When healthy they offer the biggest bang but they have all proven to be extremely...
