A large whale has washed up on a South Coast beach where the Army has a firing range into the sea. The 22ft-long creature, thought to be a pilot whale, came ashore at Warbarrow Bay, near Lulworth, Dorset. The Receiver of Wrecks and the Ministry of Defence, which owns the area, were informed after it was spotted by the coastguard. A vet will try to establish how the whale died.

Surfers have been riding the waves at Kimmeridge Bay on the Dorset coast for more than 40 years. Long, flat ledges of barely submerged shale have created one of Britain’s best surf breaks, known as Broad Bench, where big waves roll into tubes before crashing to the shore. Now, however, the area has been declared off limits by the Ministry of Defence.

Clavell Tower was perched perilously close to a cliff edge at Kimmeridge Bay, Dorset, and was at risk of a watery grave because of coastal erosion.

So do you have that summer holiday feeling? I have got that I wish I was there feeling! (whilst working hard at the weekend). We used to live by Sandbanks in Dorset and also in Carbis Bay Cornwall and go back every year for holidays as often as we can (which isn't as often as we'd like). We should be there now but due to one thing and another the break away has been delayed. (sad faces all round!)...

The sort of holiday that sneering Anonymous commentators...
