Despite Chris Osgood's return to form in a 3-2 shoot-out victory Saturday over Minnesota, Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said he plans to start Ty Conklin in goal tonight against visiting Columbus. Babcock said Osgood likely would start again Thursday against visiting Dallas. But that does not mean the coach has decided to automatically alternate starts for his goalies.

In the early hours of January 1st, 2000, my friend Jamie Babcock took his own life. I'd known Jamie for at least 15 years, though I'm not sure exactly when we met. I do recall that, at some point, he was the "new kid" at my elementary school, and he quickly gained renown for his ability to draw a near perfect Garfield--quite the marketable talent in an early-eighties fifth-grade classroom....

Goaltending has always been the most dissected aspect of the Wings' postseason runs, but it's often the most overblown. Ozzie entered this year as No. 1 and he will enter the playoffs as that. But he will have to play well in the spring, or Babcock has to turn to Ty Conklin.
