If a Mike Cameron trade were to occur, then it would be based upon the notion that OF prospect, Austin Jackson, will be ready for the 2010 season. However, I figured I’d ask the inevitable question: what if Jackson isn’t ready? It’s a realistic question, really, since Jackson spent the entire ‘08 season in AA [...]

In case you missed it, Jonathan Mayo has posted his “Top 50 Prospects” at MiLB.com. Austin Jackson came in at #27 and Jesus Montero came in at #40 for the Yankees. This ties into what Baseball America shared last month: Jackson and Montero are the two-best prospects in the Yankees system at this [...]

Austin Jackson more than held his own in Double-A during 2008 playing in a home park that somewhat favors pitchers. However, this off-season, in the AFL, he posted a BA/OBA/SLG line of .246/.298/.377 in 114 AB. Yankees GM Brian Cashman called Jackson one of two positional prospects in his system closest to helping the [...]

... 2010. A lot of what happens to the Yankees outfield in 2010 will be decided by the development of Austin Jackson, Brett Gardner and Melky Cabrera in 2009. Many believe Jackson will be big-league ready by 2010. And Gardner, although not graced with an abundance of power, may just cement a spot in center and at the top of the order with his speed and adept glove. Melky has a...

John Sickels has released his top 20 Yankees prospects for 2009. Lots of pitchers, especially bullpen guys. Catchers Jesus Montero and Austine Romine occupy two of the top four spots. Austin Jackson ranks #2. Rather predictable list that shows a lack of quality hitters in the system.

I'm working on the Giants now. The next team on the list is the New York Yankees, so here is a thread to discuss Bronx prospects. I like Austin Jackson and Jesus Montero, and Brackman is certainly intriguing, but after that I see a lot of question marks. Who are the sleepers here?

The Yanks have been hot on Brewers’ centerfielder Mike Cameron this offseason, at least until the deal was deemed “officially dead” last week. With Brett Gardner unproven and Melky Cabrera perpetually underperforming (see, I was nice about it), it’s hard to blame the Yanks for seeking out a short term upgrade until Austin Jackson is [...]

... or Gardner will earn the starting job in center field come Spring Training, barring a trade. Austin Jackson could also be in the mix, but I doubt he will get the job immediately. The organization wants to give him more time in the minors before calling him up.

Top 50 Prospects in MLB Austin Jackson made the list and he is ranked 27th overall. Jesus Montero was ranked 40th on the list. These two guys are pretty much the top 2 prospects in the farm system, so I doubt any other Yankees will make the list ahead of them. A few quick items on the day: 1. Bryan Hoch talks about Phil Hughes’ Arizona season, noting that the pitcher, despite a few rocky moments, had a solid campaign. Hoch also runs through other Yankees’ respective winter/fall league performances, thus far, including Austin Jackson, Melky Cabrera and Robinson Cano. 2. The Milwaukee Brewers, the only team along [...]
