According to WEEI Blog , after the Twins’ re-signing of Nick Punto, the Mets are targeting Alex Cora to replace Damian Easley as a middle infielder. Cora is now a free agent after having been with the Red Sox since the middle of the 2005 season. Easley played in 113 games, getting 316 at-bats, with the Mets last season while playing five different positions (primarily second base)....

It was reported earlier today that the Mets are expressing interest in Alex Cora. One thing is clear Omar is looking for a specific type of player for the bench, a guy who could start at either 2B or SS but will accept a role as a utility player. Nick Punto has signed with the Twins so it appears that Omar is looking at Cora a very similar player... The 33 y/o left handed hitter...

According to Jon Paul Morosi of the Detroit Free Press, the Tigers have considered pursuing free agent shortstop Alex Cora. Cora could be used in a platoon with Ramon Santiago. Cora, 33, hit .270/.371/.349 in 179 plate appearances this year while playing a below-average shortstop. He earned $2MM.
