The French tax authorities identified a massive €15 billion in unpaid taxes last year, but this startling figure hides a slightly more complicated reality. Most of the unpaid taxes were found within the business sector, where the tax inspectors undertake most of their investigations. Thus, of the €15 billion in unpaid taxes and fines last year, around €6 billion came from underpaid VAT. Approximately
