The Fragrant Jungle

The garden just now is a jungle, a fragrant, vibrant, luscious jungle of colors and flavors and smells to savor. And yet. with the bright sun of the summery days we’ve been having (finally), so much is lost to the glare. Better then to wander out in the cool of the evening, when the sun has settled in behind the trees to the west, and the colors have begun to intensify and blend. Tonight, after yoga...

side garden from back yard

I love the loud orange lilies and the white bells. On the right we're waiting for the raspberries to bloom and fruit. The fruits are very slow this year. The strawberries should be done by now but they're actually just getting started. As mentioned before, I've caught both robins and the chippunk sampling the first ripe ones. Here it is from the other end. The grape vine over the arbor is getting very...

Death of a Monarch

I had a strange feeling of déjà vu earlier today. As I was watering the Bronze Fennel I'd just planted that my mom shared with me, I looked to my right, where the Swamp Milkweed (Asclepias incarnata) grows, to see if we had any Monarch caterpillars yet. We've been seeing Monarch butterflies for a month or more now, so I figured it was just a matter of time before we saw some caterpillars. . . . reBlogged...

LEH

The first Rose from the Lady Emma Hamilton in my garden. A perfect flower in shades of apricit and copper. It smells very citrusy and sweet. This rose is glowing in the garden compared to the darker green foliage below. There are eleven Rose buds on the bush, so thats ten more to go. Roses are the archetypal English garden flower, and recently voted the nations number one flower. I read they are used...
