I have only been writing poems since I got my laptop and began to blog. Some are stored in my computer, some in a notebook and some are filed in my Writers' Group folder. In other words they are all over the place. So, my resolution was to buy a note book and put them all together. I bought one at The Knitting and Stitching Show in Harrogate last week and during this weekend I have written all the...

Yesterday we celebrated Miss Seven's impending birthday with "High Tea". I've been collecting proper bone china tea cups from Op-shops for a few weeks, and we set the table with the 'good' damask table cloth & napkins and got out the cut-glass platters. Then we loaded up the table with home-baked goodies, made by myself, my Mum and my sister - who made the most awesomely cute cupcakes...

1. EVERYTHING can't be Kafkaesque, can it? I ask myself this over and over, even though I know it's a rhetorical question. 2. I read today my state (Pennsylvania) is collapsing. I have long believed this, as I have noticed numerous cracks in the pavement, divots in the asphalt, odd leans to both houses and people, and when I step forward my foot falls alls by itself and seems to take longer each time...

Whilst visiting my bloggy pals these last few weeks i found that Lucy and Rachel have both recently become the proud owners of vintage Singer sewing machines. Lucy's was a very thoughtful gift from her Father-in-Law and Rachel's belonged to her Nana. Seeing these machines bought back great memories as my Mum had one which was given to her by her Mother-in-Law and it's the machine i learnt to sew on....

Above is my first project. Looks easy peasy but since I haven't used a sewing machine for ages, I was really rusty. Looking at the results now, I am quite pleased with myself. Below is my Brother Innovis 400 Sewing Machine. My hubby found this machine for me. Its a really crafty machine loaded with functions. Although a bit temperemental, once you get around its quirks, its a joy of a machine. I will...

Apologies for the blurry photo - there's not much room or light in the tool shed and this was the best of many! Also, there's not a missing drawer - I had just removed it to see it in the light better. This Singer sewing machine table has been sitting in my grandparents' tool shed for many, many years. It was given to my grandmother by her mother on the occasion of her marriage to my grandfather. Not...

This snap of an old black one is handsome, but Mother's was prettier, with flowers -my hands touched her feet working the treadledriving the big lower wheel turningwith its loop, a thin strip of leather, sending its turning up to the small wheel.Singer, I'd say to myself, while the musicalhum of it speeded up then slowed. The shiny flat rectangle the needle entered, that slid open and shut - under

**OK, so I warned you that an image-heavy post was coming LOL. Forgive the quality of the images though, it's been overcast here the last few days and the light is pretty awful.** Anyway, as I mentioned the other day, I finally managed to snag Miss Seven's birthday present on eBay. Hubby picked it up for me on Wednesday night and I'm so thrilled with it! See, I've been looking to buy her a very simple...

Thank you to those readers who sent me an e mail yesterday evening to see if I was alright as I hadn't blogged yesterday. Remember what I said about blog friends (almost wrote fiends there!) the other day - isn't it heart-warming that people should see I had missed a day. The reason for this was that my computer decided to go slow. In fact slow is an understatement - it hardly moved. Luckily Dominic...

My thoughts often take me back to idyllic days spent in Rhodesia under the blazing African sun, and the manner in which I changed countries without moving as Rhodesia became firstly Zimbabwe-Rhodesia and then finally Zimbabwe. I lived in Salisbury, now known as Harare, and the first few years were spent in the Avenues, an area always awash with the colour of Jacaranda or Flame trees. Weekend trips...
