Debtors diet, week 2: Curb your enthusiasm at grocery store

Filed under: Budgets , Debt , Food , Shopping , Economizer The thrill of the hunt is compelling, especially when your grocer's ads tout "BIG SAVINGS" on favorite holiday meal fixins. But even if you're just shopping for your weekly groceries this weekend instead of the trimmings and trappings for turkey day, it's still tough to say no to a good sale. And with most of us on strict, self-imposed...

:: Chicken Thigh Supper

This is another one of my favourite dishes from the book. Food that is full of flavour for only a tiny amount of effort is ideal for entertaining. Most of the time all you need is the basic ingredients in order to create wonders! Although chicken on the bone is a little bit more effort on the plate, I truly believe there is far more flavour going on than plain old chicken breasts. Not only that but...

A sunny, happy day

We had a good night - yahoo. Tom woke up at 11pm and 2pm, but went back to sleep immediately on feeding each time, meaning I actually had a decent night's sleep and he woke up a happy, cheery baby. It's amazing what a good night's sleep can do. Had a good breakfast and then we all decided to go down to Saltram House for a walk as it was such a beautiful day - a good November clear, crispy day. Did...

A, EGA and LCA went to visit...

A, EGA and LCA went to visit CLA, and I remained here, thinking I'd get a few things done. So far so good with that, but when I went to see about dinner this evening I realized that our freezer is packed with mostly one quart bags of frozen stock, or one quart bags of scraps and trimmings labeled "For Stock". There are some popsicles too.

utterly twitzcapated

Oddness this week. It started when I swept this book off the new non-fiction display at the library. I was all "Heh, go ahead and show me that Twitter is worthwhile and not just a whole lot of TMI". Or something like that. Predictably, there I was the next afternoon customizing my Twitter home page. And then finding folks to follow, and checking out Tweet readers, and downloading Twit apps...

Maggots or Landfill?

We have still not found a place to properly compost in Kingston. So far, when anyone comes for dinner, we send them home with all of our compost from the freezer to put in their composter. Also the building next door has green bins and does not seem to use them often so we [...]

Fall Air

I don't know how it happened, but suddenly Fall is in the air. I had a friend call me from Bolivia tonight, and her first sentence included the phrase "so it's cold up there, I hear." She might even have cackled after saying that. And I, much to my chagrin, had to sigh and agree. It IS getting cold up here. One day soon we might have to turn on the heat in the morning. I've discarded my thin...
