Hershey currently holds the licence to make Cadbury's bars in the US. But many feel they lack a certain je ne sais quoi With familiar purple packaging and a swirly "C", the Cadbury chocolate bars found in American shops look as if they are made by Britain's besieged confectionery company. But they are not, and to US chocoholics a tiny difference is deeply distressing. Since 1988, the American...

Will is crack on... The New York Times reports that "the United Nations Adaptation Fund, which officially began operating in 2008 to help poor countries finance projects to blunt the effects of global warming, remains an empty shell, largely because rich nations have failed to come through with the donations they promised." The fund has a risible $18 million, which might not cover the cost...

Last week we went to Open Farm Sunday , sponsored by Cabot Creamery Cooperative, and hosted by a local farm. Awesome Daughter was not interested in staying too long, until...they offered her complimentary corn chowder and sharp cheddar cheese. It was somewhat coincidental, as we were talking about making corn chowder for dinner. VB presents a short tour of the farm. We had fun. And, of course, everyone...

When reading Loren's post the other day (In a Dark Time.....the eye begins to see - see my blog list - he takes the most wonderful bird photos) it struck me what a brilliant quotation that is. If you read my previous post you might be expecting me to completely break down and post about FarmVille - but instead I bring you FishVille! After writing that post, Jim got our connection to the web back up so I could publish it - unfortunately I was then unable to get into my farm and haven't been able to since - I'd thought it hilarious when I'd got 27 green alien cows into a dairy that was only...

If there ever was any doubt about the drawing power of Wisconsin's claim to dairy fame, the first weekend festival at Monona Terrace offered plenty of evidence that cheese is ripe for foodie tourism.

Over at the j weekly , I've had an article on the wonderful photo exhibit at the BJE Community Library in San Francisco on Balkan Sephardic Jews. Called "Images of a Lost World" it documents the lives of a population killed during WWII or dispersed afterwards. The photos and accompanying interviews documents these communities in Bulgaria, Greece, Bosnia, Turkey and more. You can read my article...

I've been a pescetarian for about three years. A pescetarian diet is one that includes seafood but no other animal meats such as beef, chicken, or pork. A pescetarian diet may or may not also include eggs and dairy products. The word pescetarian is a combination of the Italian word for fish (pesce) and the word vegetarian. Many people who are pescetarians call themselves vegetarians but a pescetarian...

Quentin Tarantino may be lacking in some things, but its certainly not enthusiasm. Inglourious Basterds is a disgusting movie about killing & scalping Nazis; these types of movies don’t usually win anything but MTV awards for categories like “Best WTF Moment.” Yet, it is so funny, charming, and aggrandizing that I can’t help but love it. Tarantino manages to pull a great performance from everyone in
