Last week we went to Open Farm Sunday , sponsored by Cabot Creamery Cooperative, and hosted by a local farm. Awesome Daughter was not interested in staying too long, until...they offered her complimentary corn chowder and sharp cheddar cheese. It was somewhat coincidental, as we were talking about making corn chowder for dinner. VB presents a short tour of the farm. We had fun. And, of course, everyone...

If there ever was any doubt about the drawing power of Wisconsin's claim to dairy fame, the first weekend festival at Monona Terrace offered plenty of evidence that cheese is ripe for foodie tourism.

Funny how such a simple thing such as, GASP, fact-checking can get overlooked by a multibillion dollar company such as Heinz. Yes, people, Pittsburgh is spelled with a 'h' at the end.... ...just not on the millions of 140 year commemorative bottles that just hit the shelves.

From Private Elvis , a collection of sleazy photos of G.I. era Elvis on leave in Paris having fun, long out of print.... From Pic mag, May, '56, a digest size sleaze mag... Nowadays, anytime some weenie pulls out a guitar there's twelve morons with a camera phone there to document the event, but there are very few great recordings from rock'n'roll's golden era. There are no great live recordings from...

SEA levels on Australia's eastern seaboard are rising at less than a third of the rate that the New South Wales Government is predicting as it overhauls the state's planning laws and bans thousands of landowners from developing coastal sites. The Rees Government this week warned that coastal waters would rise 40cm on 1990 levels by 2050, with potentially disastrous effects. Even yesterday Kevin Rudd...

From the kitchen of One Perfect Bite... This is a lovely palate cleanser to serve at the end of a heavy meal. I try to keep a quart of it in the freezer for those who don't like, or have room for, more traditional holiday desserts. Sorbet is a frozen dessert that's a bit like gelato, but it's softer and contains no dairy products. It's made with sugar and a fruit puree and it's suitable for vegan diets....

Quentin Tarantino may be lacking in some things, but its certainly not enthusiasm. Inglourious Basterds is a disgusting movie about killing & scalping Nazis; these types of movies don’t usually win anything but MTV awards for categories like “Best WTF Moment.” Yet, it is so funny, charming, and aggrandizing that I can’t help but love it. Tarantino manages to pull a great performance from everyone in
