Thinking of Tuscany: Castellare Chianti Classico 2005

I spent a couple of weeks in Chianti last year, having booked through to-tuscany.com. Their latest newsletter caught my eye as I was drinking a Castellare from Castellina in Chianti at the time - it almost brought me back for a moment.

Taste & Create XII

This is my entry for Taste & Create which is now is now 1 year old. I have been teamed up with Grace, a southern girl who lives in New York and has a tasty little blog called Southern Grace . It is always lovely to make a new friend and it doesn't hurt when your new friend has tempting delicacies like this on her blog . Magnificent Mint Truffles 8oz/ 200g package cream cheese, softened 3 cups icing...

Hattersley's Recipe is Thin Gruel Indeed

One wishes Roy Hattersley's prophecy skills were the equal of his literary abilities. His article today is headed: 'Don't Give up-Labour Can Still Win in 2010 Here's How' . While I still- but see below- can just about accept the first premise, I'm not impressed by his 'here's how' bit. Much of his piece is concerned with the Hattersley critique of New Labour and boils down to two suggestions: a windfall...

Tesco Belgian White Chocolate Strawberries

I've mentioned before (at least twice) that I love freeze dried strawberries, so these were a must have buy for me. There's something about that weird cardboardy texture that I just can't get enough of. And these certainly look tempting. Large, whole straweberries, covered in a creamy looking white chocolate. Strangely, they have a slightly sticky / [...]

I just can't help myself

“A wife was making a breakfast of fried eggs for her husband. Suddenly, her husband burst into the kitchen. 'Careful,' he said, 'CAREFUL! Put in some more butter! Oh my gosh! You're cooking too many at once. TOO MANY! Turn them! TURN THEM NOW! We need more butter. Oh my gosh! WHERE are we going to get MORE BUTTER? They're going to STICK! Careful. CAREFUL! I said be CAREFUL! You NEVER listen to me when...

Cooked Breakfast in my stoneware

I love cooked breakfasts but what I don't like is the smoke detector going off when I have the grill on, I don't like the cooker top getting all splashed when I cook fried eggs...the amount of pots and pans it creates is horrendous... ...but the problem is now solved! Cooked in a pampered chef medium bar pan I use my stoneware to cook my breckies in now...first the sausages go in for 10 minutes then...

marchand-grillot, gevrey 1er petit-chapelle

2005 Marchand-Grillot, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Petit-Chapelle Deep colour. The nose starts quite savoury, only slowly offering a deeper black-fruit core that has a faint white pepper coating. In the mouth this is much more mineral, the acidity is more obvious but retains good balance. The tannins are a little more visible and help [...]

And now for a wine from…. Tunisia?

At UKWOL we always welcome and applaud merchants who try something new or interesting and manage to break away from the often bland brands which bombard many shelves. So full marks to LeBonVin, which despite their French sounding name are offering wines from Tunisia and the Lebanon. Its easy to forget that many Mediterranean countries [...]

Seared Radicchio ♥

Today's quick vegetable recipe: Wedges of radicchio (also called chicory) seared in a hot skillet, then dipped in syrupy vinegar. Low carb. Weight Watchers 1 point. So earlier, when I mentioned feeling ho-hum about the Italian version of the Weight Watchers zero points soup , since radicchio is expensive, I also suggested skipping it entirely or substituting the less expensive red cabbage. I take it...
