Image via Independent While some are off to Rio for Fashion Rocks, others are heading to Istanbul for the Fashionable Istanbul weekend, hosted by Bar Refaeli. Fashion Week is not just for New York, Milan, Paris, and London anymore! Roberto Cavalli’s the designer of honor, and this evening, October 23, a gala in his honor will take place to [...]

Annnd we're back. Back from the dead and into LG Fashion week. Absolutely packed. Filled with those who've got style, those who want style and those who try to hard. If you haven't already, it's definitely worth a visit. Check out the pics from the David Dixon collection. It turned out to be a solid combination of subtle patterns in whites, pinks, and deep blues. Although mostly skirts, and spaghetties...

Jac leaves the Roberto Cavalli show in Milan Jac is already a huge force both on and off the runway. While only participating in runway shows in New York and Milan, she walked in nearly every key show in both cities (33 total shows): from Marc Jacobs and Oscar de la Renta in New York to Prada and Gucci in Milan -- among the many. She also managed to really solidify her presence as a strong show Opener...

With that three week whirlwind known as fashion week now over, I spent the the better half the weekend going through all the Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear collections. This is probably one of my favourite things to do, and even though I haven’t even bought all my wish list items for Fall 09, looking at the Spring collections is like knowing the future, which allows me to be well ahead of the pack....

1. RISQUE SWIMWEAR Slashed fabric (see Emporio Armani, left) and strategic twists and ties (Emilio Pucci, right) made for some very sexy swimwear on the Milan runways. I wouldn't recommend wearing these against bare flesh. Layer over a bright one-piece or bikini, slip on a pair of shorts and slides, throw a woven beach basket over your shoulder and dunzo. You're THE hautest girl at the beach. >...

With runway regulars Raquel Zimmermann , Coco Rocha , and Catherine McNeil missing in action, Milan proved to be a battleground for the new class. After a breakout fall 2009 season, Russian model Jac opened for Bottega Veneta and Pucci , closed Gianfranco Ferré , and did both at Etro . Alla Kostromicheva was the first face at the Rami Fernandez and Maida Gregori Boina–cast Jil Sander...

Designers are in the midst of a heated argument at Milan fashion week-whether one should dress for sex or dress for abstinence in a global recession. Seems a fitting debate in a country where the famously womanizing Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and Pope Benedict XVI are its two most powerful leaders On the celibate team sits Miuccia Prada, who practices restraint on a regular basis (well,...

Luisa Beccaria’s Spring 2010 presentation was the 3rd show I attended during Milan Fashion Week. The presentation was in a much smaller venue to the Versace and Roberto Cavalli shows I attended, but that only added to the charm and the ambiance of this seductive presentation. I’ve often said that I would wish to see Luisa Beccaria [...]

Words by Carla Passino Leg is in, long is out. This, together with a revival of big, sexy, 1980s glamour, was the message of the first big day of Milan’s fashion week . Which is why Alberta Ferretti’s ethereal, romantic and serenely beautiful collection surprised the fashion crowds on Friday morning.

Surprisingly, quite a few of my favourite designers were not my favourites for Spring/Summer 2010 at Milan Fashion Week. Many still were, and I discovered a new favourite: Aquilano.Rimondo - headed by designers Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi. Their first collection under their independantly-financed label, Aquilano.Rimondo debuted in Milan's Spring/Summer 2009 Fashion Week in September 2008....

Roberto Cavalli, typically known for his uber-fabulous, luxe designs has taken a serious departure from his norm with his Spring-Summer collection. His latest offerings can best be described as bohemian-chic, with a dash of menswear thrown in for good measure. I kinda, sorta miss his old style.

No, this isn't some idylic Tuscan farmhouse I stumbled into for a break from the fash-bashing Milan fashion week is giving me (I wish). It's the helm of Roberto Cavalli's catwalk, styled up as said provincial villa and replete with trailing vines, wicker furniture and a croft-tiled runway. Maybe we're... [ more ]
