Ryanair Causes Controversy With 2010 Bikini Calendar

“The Irish airliner’s annual calendar features its own flight attendants wearing little more than a black bikini. Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary has hit back at criticism of the airline’s raunchy cabin crew calendar by sending it to ‘anti-fun’ MEP Mary Honeyball, who last year accused the airline of forcing cabin crew to take part. ” [...]

Official: Political Abuse Is OK

It was abuse, but it wasn't racially-motivated . An Asian man who was accused of calling Nick Griffin a “white b*****d” as he drove past him has been cleared of racially threatening behaviour. The defendant, who admitted calling Mr Griffin a “f****** w*****”, smiled in triumph as the jury returned their verdict after deliberating for 45 minutes at the end of a three day trial....

Keep the human trafficking unit open

By Mary Honeyball MEP The issue of human trafficking was raised this week in the Lords by the independent peer Lady Young. She has led a campaign to close a gap in the law which, she claims, prevents the authorities from dealing effectively with the issue. As the MEP for London I was particularly concerned to learn that the Met Police Force, which polices the most populous city in the European Union,...

A Review of the Honeyball Buzz

Having started my own regular blog reviews, I recently came across one for this particular blog. Politics.co.uk, who have a complete list of political blogs, are too kind - they have reviewed the Honeyball Buzz and summarise it as: “One of our favourite MEPs’ blogs, the excellent Mary Honeyball provides us with an informed, witty commentary on life in Labour.” Thank you [...]

When Did Being Educated Start Requiring Stupidity...

When Did Being Educated Start Requiring Stupidity? Was it when education became vulgar, and self-referential? I wonder about this as I sit in Bath, in Nelson's old front room after a seminar with some bright Americans. I wandered onto the internet to try and keep my mind buzzing, and I have found rubbish about global warming, the end of the recession, why America is the best country in the world ever,...

Mary Honeyball, are you aware of what reform is or aren't you?

Maybe Mary Honeyball MEP wants a nice cosy soundbite, like wot Gordon gave her in Brighton last week, when she wrote for LabourList 'Nick, are you committed to reform or aren't you?'. Too busy to read all 92 pages of Nick's pamphlet the Liberal Moment . Maybe she was too busy trying to get elected to hear Nick Clegg calling for deep and serious reform before the summer recess. A far deeper reform than...

Nick, are you committed to reform or aren't you?

By Mary Honeyball MEP One of the things Gordon Brown got right in his excellent keynote conference speech was his promise on the alternative vote system for Westminster elections. As many of you will know, I am a supporter of Electoral Reform and spoke at the Labour Campaign for Electoral Reform’s fringe meeting at Party Conference, along with fellow MEP Richard Howitt and Ben Bradshaw, Secretary...

Mary Honeyball

For a long time now I have a had a friend request on Facebook from Mary Honeyball. I assume it's the political one as it comes with a picture of her. I'm a bit bemused by the friend request since given her high levels of God knocking in the past I do have to wonder why she would be interested in a God-botherer like myself? Perhaps I should give in and add her as a friend. Perhaps she wants to convert...

Dinner with London Labour MEP Mary Honeyball.

Next was a dinner with MEP Mary Honeyball. Every year Mary hosts a dinner for London CLP delegates to discuss European issues. Mary is of course also a European Parliamentary blogger (see The Honeyball Buzz ). The meal was very pleasant and informative. The West Ham delegation was sat next to East London comrades from Barking & Dagenham and Hornchurch. Check out Mary’s report on the dinner....
