Today's fun news is that over half of all Republicans are willing to tell a pollster (well, a robopolling call) that they believe that ACORN stole the 2008 election for Barack Obama. John Sides has several good points about the poll, and about not reading too much into it. I can add two things. First, the analogy John makes (as does Eric Kleefeld at TPM ) to the 2000 election isn't the right one to...
You usually take your pants off to apply for another kind of job. Since this a family blog, I'll let you figure out which job that is. But I've seen stories of desperate job seekers willing to do anything to get attention. And I can't blame them. I'm interning right now but can't foresee whether they'll be a job waiting for me in a few months. Whatever the case may be, you gotta hand it to guys like...
I was in-studio and on-the-air this morning with a couple of my favorite cats, Rick and Doran of Digital Village, featuring the most maddeningly-catchy theme song in all of radio, on KPFK (L.A. and Santa Barbara's Pacifica station). We talked e-voting, including "open source" secret vote-counting machines (the latest ill-considered fad sweeping the nation), Internet voting [...]

There is a stock trading technique called 'Buying Dividends' is becoming more and more popular. This is the process of buying stocks before the ex dividend date and selling the stock shortly after the ex date at about the same price, yet still being entitled to the dividend. Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Kathy Dent had numerous problems with undervotes during the 2006 election. The Christine Jenning/Vern Buchanan recount became a national news story. Election Systems & Software warned Dent about machine problems. Both Dent and ES & S swore there were no machine irregularities. That was until the letter the ES & S letter to Dent became public . Dent...

Her "solution": Make sure that black pens were available at polling places, and otherwise have election officials [...]
For many years , David Chaum has been pushing for a voting system that he claims will be a lot more reliable. Basically, after you vote, you get a coded number, and then after the election, you can go to an election website, punch in your code and make sure that your vote counted, and was for whom you meant to vote. On top of this, there's a system for auditors to check to make sure that votes were...
ATM maker Diebold Inc. on Tuesday posted a third-quarter loss as it absorbed a big loss on the sale of its voting machine business. It also cut its full year profit and revenue forecast.
Diebold (DBD) announced disappointing results. Given the depressed nature of the financial sector its not surprising. In reading the earnings release investors reach the conclusion that Diebold was just an order taker and now orders are down. Yes the financial sector is on its hands and knees. But economies cannot develop without financial institutions functioning well. The self serve concept reduces...
