We’re almost done, kiddies. This is what you’ve all been waiting for. I had a great time at Dyson learning about dust mites, chatting with James about the iPhone, watching him bash a DC24 and getting an overview of the history of Dyson. But my main objective while in Malmesbury was to design and build [...]
Today Sharp unveiled a prototype of a 26-inch LCD Aquos TV [JP], which is solely powered by solar energy. The company said one day, their solution might bring television to all the 1.6 billion people on earth who don’t have access to electricity. Sharp’s new green TV uses half of the power existing LCDs need. In [...]
The Hyogo Prefectural Institute of Technology recently presented [JP] a humanoid robot that is programmed to walk like a fashion model. The researchers claim they used materials easily available anywhere for the development of the robot, which comes with a frame made of aluminum. The Manekin Robotto (fashion model robot) stands just 160cm tall, which might [...]

Interesting approach to customer service you’ve got there, HP! Hot tipper Zack, who sent his still-under-warrantee HP laptop in to be serviced for a bad hinge, writes: Well today I received a call from an HP Tech Support guy. I was informed that liquid had been inside my keyboard and when they opened the computer to diagnose it, [...]
Sure this thing has GPS built-in but it uses a number of clever algorithms so it won’t be completely dependent on geographic position and can even do crazy arial acrobatics. The best part is where they throw balls at the thing and when it stays essentially in the same place without moving. This stuff is cool but extremely scary. via Giz
At Germany’s new grocery story of the future (already in use by residents of the present) shoppers can use mobile phones to check out while they shop. The store has created free software for your phone that allows you to use your camera to capture barcodes as you shop. Wha happen?! Bloops! It seems the gas inside flat-panel displays, Nitrogen Trifluoride (NF3), is 17,000 times better than CO2 when it comes to trapping heat in the atmosphere. The gas isn’t very prevalent yet but just wait until we start throwing away our old HDTVs to get OLEDs. Best of all, “has a characteristic mouldy smell [...]
Damn, when I first heard about the GeForce 260 and 280 I thought it was checkmate. No one expected much of the new line of Radeons in the first place given ATI’s lackluster offerings lately, and combine that with the improvement in the 65nm 280 — I think I was justified in thinking so. But [...]
Did you know? Japan experiences 20% of the world’s most powerful earthquakes. I didn’t know that until I read this article, though I knew they got quite a few. And as you can see, what with the country being mostly composed of volcanoes and nuclear power plants, it makes sense that they’d have the world’s [...]
Hey, readers. We’ll be chilling in the sunshine tomorrow and back to posting on the weekend in the lead-up to - ummmm - the iPhone 3G! Have a good long weekend and thanks, as always, for tuning in.
Apple has dropped the price of its solid state drive MacBook Air by $500. Now, the useless laptop equipped with a solid state drive can be had for the low, low price of $2,598. That’s with a 1.8GHz Core 2 Duo processor. Note that the upgrade price from the 1.6GHz to 1.8GHz has also dropped, from [...]
Are you a hippie? Want to force people to look at flowers? Make some seed bombs. These tiny little bomblets contain clay and seeds and you basically drop them on the ground and they germinate, spread flowers and good cheer all over the abandoned brownfields near the river. Here’s the recipe: 5 parts dry red clay* 3 parts [...]
While at Dyson HQ, I had the pleasure, once again, of interviewing the man himself. I had to ask what his thoughts were on the iPhone, and James’ answers were both entertaining and interesting. I have an iPhone and a BlackBerry. And I have to confess that I use the BlackBerry more. But I really [...]
