Alternatives?

So, I need a new way to host pictures. The anti-cool Nazis over at Photobucket decided to raid my account and got rid of a ton of sweet ass pictures (not pictures of sweet asses, but who knows, there might have been as well) that were residing in that account. It's basically 5 pages worth of the above on that account, and I'm kind of getting tired of this. So . . . anyone know what I can do to avoid...

The Myspace Problem

Myspace may be the most popular social networking site, but its share of plagiarism seems to far outstrip its market share. Along with its sister site Photobucket, Myspace is likely the current king of human-born plagiarism.

Smiley good things

So I went to photobucket to try to dig up some Pan's Labyrinth artwork, because I love that movie to a revolting degree and have been in a very tattooish mood in recent weeks. Anyway, as happens in such situations, I got distracted by other thoughts and looked up other things. So! First of all, an image I hadn't seen before but am sure is common knowledge to everyone else, because I suck like that:...

Babycakes San Diego (and photo question)

Thanks to San Diego CityBeat, we've learned of yet another Babycakes bakery, this one in San Diego. Now, I got all these images from their Photobucket site. Maybe it's me, but do any of them look familiar? Let us know if these originated elsewhere (and if they didn't, my apologies, they just look like ones I've seen and are all very different from one another). Babycakes 3766 Fifth Avenue San Diego,...

Start now - AOL Hometown

AOL Hometown (including File Manager) is heading for the chop as well. So, head for http://hometown.aol.com/_fm (if you're in the US) or http://hometown.aol.co.uk/_fm if you're in the UK. The easiest way to deal with image files from Hometown is to open a Photobucket account, if you don't already have one. Apologies for singling out one site, but they offer the option of uploading from a URL. 1. Right-click...

Calling all Brits lecturing in Korea!

Times Higher Education (Image from THE ) I'm having a bit of a bandwidth problem with my Photobucket account today and haven't quite sorted it out. Meanwhile, here's a public-service announcement to help Michael Fitzpatrick, a journalist in search of British professors lecturing in South Korea: Dear Jeffery I tracked you down via Robert's Marmot's Hole as it were. I'm doing a piece for THES on Japan...

Start now - pictures

It's time to take stock what needs doing before November 1st. I'll try to offer a wee bit of tech advice, for as much as I can. (1) Where do you have your pictures, graphics stored? If it's Flickr, Photobucket, Picasa (in short: outside AOL), you're fine. If it's on AOL Pictures, you'll have to download each and every album onto your harddisk drive. To do that, follow these steps: 1. Go to: http://pictures.aol.com/ap/myAlbums.do...

Saving a Fortune in Data Warehousing

I just wanted to extend my congratulations to the team at Greenplum, and our joint customers at Fox Interactive Media - the folks behind MySpace, Photobucket, IGN, FOXSports.com, and a whole series of web properties that together represent one of the single largest audiences on the web. All three of us announced today that Fox is running a massive production data warehouse built atop Greenplum's data...

Mobile Content Bits: iPhone Retail; PhotoBucket Mobile; Soap App; Android OS; NuTsie; Transpera

-- Buy iPhones at home and pick them up at the store: Apple ( NSDQ: AAPL ) launched a new way for people to buy iPhones yesterday , by letting people signup and register online, and then drive to a nearly Apple retail store to pick up the phone. Once at the store, a person will help you set up the phone, so you know how to make calls, browse the Web, receive email and more. Sounds a bit like Sprint's...
