Google Blog Search Becomes Content Aggregator

Google Blog Search has a new homepage that makes it look more like a memetracker. Rather than being a pure search page, the service now resembles the Google News page, where search is combined with content aggregation. The new Blog Search homepage is very similar to Techmeme and Memeorandum. Top stories relating to a wide variety [...]

Sites that I found interesting for October 2nd 2008 through October 3rd 2008: Google Launches Its Own Memetracker - Google has just launched a new homepage for its blog search that bears a strong resemblance to Techmeme, Memeorandum and their “memetracker” counterparts. The site displays a listing of the top stories from across a variety [...]

Google Blog Search Redesigns as Meme Tracker

Google Blog Search has redesigned and added meme trackers like Techmeme and Megite on the front pages of several categories and the homepage itself. I've shared a screenshot and you can see how the blog posts are separated by story along with how popular they are. This allows for easy scanning, which is useful if you're looking for blogs talking about a hot topic. What do you think of the update?...

Google Improves Blog Searching

Google has finally decided to upgrade their blog search and have added new features that rival Techmeme. Google has a clean blog listing which also includes the number of blog articles as well a listing time of the last blog post. But what makes Google Blog Search even better is the ability to locate older [...]

Techmeme: What Has Happened? Heard Nothing About The Meme Tracker In a Year!

With Google re-launching their Blog Search service will this finally kill off Techmeme. Gabe over at Techmeme hasn’t made any real aesthetic changes to the site in a few years, and it seems as though that lack of imagination is slowly killing his business. In the last six months or so no one has been talking [...]

Google Debuts Blog Search Redesign

We all know how redesigns can send normally sane people into a tizzy (see New Facebook upheaval), but the revamped look of Google’s Blogsearch home page has thus far earned polite golf claps, although it has also garnered plenty of comparisons to Techmeme. Google’s resident SEO policeman, Matt Cutts, discussed the makeover in his blog, [...]

7 blog news trackers compared

In many ways Wednesday's release of an updated front page to Google Blog Search has put blog news tracking into the limelight. Google didn't get there first though. Sites like Techmeme, Blogrunner, and Technorati have been tracking the hottest blog posts for quite some time. Now's a good time to take a look at what makes these sites (and others) individual and different from the Google's new tool....

Google Blog Search Memetracker

Google Blog Search (GBS) is now memetracking, similar to services such as Megite and Techmeme. You can filter by a number of categories such as Science, Technology, Entertainment, Business, Politics, etc.. The look and feel is no way close to Techmeme. Clustering GBS clusters stories similar to Google News. Techmeme does something similar but, it does this 2 ways: 1. Stories [...]

Google’s New Blogsearch Memetracker is a Fail

Google’s new blog memetracker feature, which allegedly competes with Techmeme and Technorati, found only 16 posts as of 10/2/2008 about the "Amazon EC2 running Microsoft Windows Server" topic. Although it appeared briefly on Techmeme, my Amazon Adds SQL Server to Oracle and MySQL as EC2 Relational Database Management Systems wasn’t one of them. (The number of posts varied from 14 to 17.) What’s really...

All Algorithm, No Voice

That's how Fred describes Google's new blog search, a supposed "Techmeme (or Technorati or Blogs.com) - killer". It's a very good description of Google's services....

Battle of the algorithms

I find it funny that TechMeme's top story a few minutes ago was about Google launching a "TechMeme killer". I also enjoyed Sean Percival's post about who's really going to kill TechMeme , mainly because I know Gabe and satire is just funny words wrapped around a crunchy nugget of truth. What a week for Gabe. One day he's Business Week famous and the next day Google's trying to kill his site .
