Web browser aficionados welcomed last week's release of Camino 2.0, a Mac-only browser based on the Firefox codebase. While missing the extensibility of Firefox, Camino is a much more Mac-like browser that some people prefer to Apple's own Safari. Over the past few years, Camino had fallen far behind Safari and Firefox in terms of features; indeed, I switched back to Safari a couple years ago. However,...

Filed under: Software, Freeware, Internet Tools, Open Source Camino seems a bit like the half-forgotten poor sister of Firefox. The goal of the Camino project is to produce a truly OS X-native browser built on the same Gecko rendering engine that drives Firefox. While it was popular among certain Mac geeks for a while (I even [...]

"Camino - the Gecko-based browser with native Cocoa interface and more seamless Mac OS X integration - has finally landed an official 2.0 release. The browser uses a much newer version of Mozilla's Gecko rendering engine (the same one used in Firefox) along with updated tabs and improved security features. However, Camino still lags Firefox in support for Web fonts and advanced HTML5 features...

Mac OS X: Camino, the lightweight, Mac-centered, standards-compliant browser, has seen a 2.0 release filled with features fans are going to dig. Selective ad and Flash blocking, OS X keychain integration, Growl support, and much more are now baked in. Camino's got a lot to recommend it, especially if you're mainly concerned with having a solid browser on your OS X desktop that isn't Safari. Selective...

Regular readers will know that my browser of choice has long been Camino . It's that other browser built under the brand of Firefox-makers Mozilla, that runs on the Mac platform and is entirely open-source. I love it because it's much lighter and faster than Firefox is, while being extremely compatible with just about all sites on the web. And today, version 2.0 has just launched. Version 2 has been...

Mac: don't restore explicitly closed windows. With "On startup"/"Restore the pages that were open last" set (in Preferences), a window which was explicitly closed (using the red button, Cmd-Shift-W, the menu item -- but not due to quit) should not be restored on startup. This is the behaviour of Firefox and Camino (Safari doesn't appear to implement this feature). Note about this...

Mozilla has posted a first release candidate for Camino 2.0, the next major edition of the company’s Mac-focused web browser. RC1 makes relatively few changes compared to previous betas, but it does enable new AppleScript abilities, improved Full Keyboard Access support and per-site whitelisting or blacklisting of Flash. More significant may be an [...]
