Choire Sicha has the latest update on Gawker's payroll, and it's pretty ugly. Gawker writers get paid per pageview , remember, and that pay, as of the beginning of Q3, has fallen by 23%, from $6.50 to $5.00 per thousand pageviews. That's on top of the 13% pay cut they took at the beginning of the second quarter, to $6.50 from $7.50 per thousand pageviews. Nick Denton, Gawker's owner and editor, tries...

Once again, Gawker Media has cut the pay of their bloggers, according to a post over at Radar . You may recall that not too long ago, Gawker Media moved to a model where their bloggers were tied to the traffc on their individual blog posts - along with a system of traffic bonuses and other incentives. The declining economy may have had an impact on Gawker Media, thus driving down the payrates… Radar...

Gawker's pay-by-the-pageview compensation system is novel, but it's proving tricky to sustain. Founder Nick Denton ( SA 100 #7 ) has cut his writers' pay rate for the second straight quarter, Radar reports . Gawker writers' pay rate in Q1 was $7.50 per 1,000 page views. In Q2, it dropped to $6.50. Now it stands at $5.00 -- a 33% cut since January. Other Gawker properties have seen their rates cut,...

Radar Online For Gawker writers, a million pageviews a month to an individual writer's blog posts will now net that writer $5,000, notes Choire Sicha . Six months ago, a million pageviews would have gotten a writer $7,500. In June, Gawker's top traffic-getter was Richard Lawson , with 1.5 million pageviews (under the new rate, that's $7,500).

Gawker has a nice writeup about the last pano I shot -- thanks, guys! They also suggested shooting the photo in a way that would make the buildings all have correct height in relation to each other. This is actually an interesting idea, and one that would be technically extremely difficult to pull off. It'd require a good deal of prethinking to avoid parallax. I'll file that one away for the future!...

Happy July 4th! Looks like this week got away from me, but today is pretty quiet, so I'll sneak in a quick post. Until this year, I had never heard of garlic scapes and then suddenly they were everywhere - a post over on the CLBB and a lot of pictures on Food Gawker . I even saw them at my local farmer's market, but skipped them over since I really didn't know what to do with them. Finally I saw a...

I really was not going to comment at all about this, but… I see Violet Blue’s name on the Fleshbot masthead as a Contributor. Why is that missing from Owen’s Valleywag post and Melissa’s Valleywag post? It’s in Jackson’s Valleywag post (the first official Valleywag response and, I believe, the first official Gawker Media response) and Hamilton’s Gawker post. And no, in a huge story like this, I don’t...

Over at Gawker Nick Denton is reporting that page views for the site are 108% ahead of the level they were at at the end of last year. Many will remember that Gawker suffered a much talked about mass exodus late last fall with the successive departures of Alex Balk , Choire Sicha , Emily Gould , Josh Stein , and Doree Shafrir , causing many in the media world to wonder if Gawker's day in the sun had...
