Filed under: Podcasts It wasn't easy to find things to talk about this week, but wouldn't you know there was not stopping as once we got started. As you can expect we got a little riled up about sales people recommending LCDs over Plasmas by three to one, even though they don't know why. Then we talked some Hollywood vs the consumer as we shared our ideas and personal ethics when it comes to copyright....
Filed under: Ask Engadget HD , Tuners , OTA Following up on last week's promise , we present to you a similar (but very different) question about pulling in OTA signals: "I'm relatively close to my local TV stations, and I'm not looking to overtake my roof with chicken wire in order to get a signal. I want an OTA antenna that can be setup indoors, preferably something that's either easily hidden or...
Since before Blend Tech began I've been a fan of numerous tech websites and blogs, as can be seen in man of our posts crediting such sites with news. Engadget has always been at the top of my too read list, and master tech expert and editor extraordinaire Ryan Block was always a big part of that.
Along with that "other phone", Palm (relatively quietly) launched their 800w, and the early reviews have been pouring in. For those of you considering the 800w, here's a collection of unboxings and reviews you may find helpful. [ The Gadgeteer | Brighthand | CNET | Engadget Mobile | Mobility Site ( photos , video ) ] In general, most reviewers seem to think it's a worthwhile improvement over the earlier...
"I've decided to step down as editor of this publication in late August so as to start a new company," writes Engadget editor Ryan Block, confirming earlier rumors. In theory, his replacement is... [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]
Ryan Block, editor of Engadget, announced his resignation today. When I first heard the news, I was blindsided with a loss of competitive bearing followed by some strange sorrow. I suppose I'd...
Big staffing changes coming to Engadget, AOL's top tech blog: Editor-in-chief Ryan Block is, as rumored, leaving in late August to launch a startup , and staffer Josh Topolsky will take his position. Engadget Managing Editor Joshua Fruhlinger -- a candidate for Block's old job -- gets kicked upstairs; he'll be overseeing the AOL Tech network, which includes Engadget and its various spinoffs, and sites...
It’s true, my last day as Engadget’s editor-in-chief will be late next month (my official announcement is here). Without question, this has been the hardest decision I’ve ever made, but I know it’s the right one. But as much as I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead (and grateful they’re not Motorola-related), I’m also [...]
Ryan Block confirms our previous story that he’s stepping down from the top spot at gadget blog Engadget. He will be launching an as-yet-to-be-named startup with Peter Rojas, Engadget’s former editor-in-chief (pictured left, next to Block), focusing on the consumer electronics space. We’ve speculated that the new site may be called Devixe and may include [...]
For those of us lowly early-adopters who have a Sony Reader and not the OMFGBBQ Kindle, here's some wonderful news via Engadget : Sony will be shooting out an update on Thursday to allow the Reader to use purchased books in the protected EPUB format from whoever is peddling them, instead of being tied to the Sony's e-book store, or just DRM-free text and PDF documents. The content will still be DRM'd...
Yes it's true, Apple's sold over one million iPhone 3Gs, but the details are so much more interesting. Engadget has word from sources at "a national wholesaler" who handles ports for T-Mobile that the number of ports from T-Mobile to AT&T wasn't as dazzling as the 1 million phones sold. Of the 1,000 ports surrounding the iPhone 3G's launch, less than 40% were from T-Mobile to AT&T. By comparison,...

freedom.jpg Originally uploaded by redbarren It's always interesting seeing what people say in their " I'm moving on " post, and Engadget as Email King Jason Calacanis well evangelised was one of the first mainstream blogs, in the highly valued technology sector, and part of (one of?) the first major blog acquisitions. JC has talked about he recruited Rojas, how the blogger was the star, an equity...
by Darren Murph , posted Jul 22nd 2008 at 5:00PM From all the coffee shop musicians here at Engadget, we'd like to sincerely thank Belkin for producing this marvelous device. For the rest of us who run around on stage like madmen, we have our doubts about how well this will work. Nevertheless, the BreakFree Connectors were designed to add a magnetic breakaway point in your 1/4-inch cable, meaning that...
