I got the following question from Aaron: Why isn't all mac software from the MacBU? Do you talk to MS devs who are working on mac software but aren't in the macBU? Actually, Silverlight isn't the only non-MacBU Mac development at Microsoft. There's also the Expression Media team (neé iView Pro). Microsoft is expanding its product offerings to meet the needs of users across multiple platforms. The...
Once again I have to renew my subscription to the Apple Developer program . Once again I'm very annoyed from the fact that the same service, provided by the same company with the same personnel, costs $499 in the US, and €499 in Europe. At today's exchange, €499 = $782.88 . So, once again, I will delay the renewal as much as possible.
From The Annals of Forehead-Slappers, I present you this wacky story from Marko Karppinen, who tried to log into his Apple Developer Connection (ADC) account only to find that his password wasn't working. How could that be, you ask? Apparently, someone else changed his password. How could that be, you ask? This Someone Else, claiming to be Marko, asked Apple for the account's password in this effectively-written...

At my job they use a more elaborate setup for development than I've been used to (the Very Special engineer that I am). It has some advantages over the quick 'n dirty approach I've used, but it has proved to...
Apple's iPhone apps platform, launching on July 11, could be a big hit. But if you're a developer who wants to cash in on it, we hope you're patient -- or have a hook-up at Apple. We hear the waiting list to get accepted into Apple's developer program is six months long . (That is, to be officially recognized as an iPhone developer, so you can submit your app to Apple for inclusion in the iPhone apps...
I've spent about an hour this evening looking at the Apple developer documentation trying to figure out how to play music. By that I mean how to play musical notes through the (presumed) software synthesizer. I did this quite easily a few years ago with JavaSound but I'm not making much headway here. Even by Apple standards the documentation is terse and opaque. Just to clarify that last statement...
Apple posted an article at the Apple Developer Connection Website on Thursday entitled: "Managing Concurrency with NSOperation." The tutorial explains techniques that allow developers to make better use of multi-core Macs
Anyway, enough of that political crap. I studied politics for years, and after careful consideration have come to the conclusion that politicians are scum. The End. So now, now on to something more exciting and fruitful: I am suffering development environment envy… The 100% Mac is the development environment used by all the engineers (i.e. desktops and laptops). A new engineer that comes in gets a...
As Apple keeps churning out those “I’m a Mac vs. I’m a PC” ads, you’d think Microsoft’s hatred for its rival would know no ends. Certainly it would never do anything that could help Apple gain market share faster than it already is, right? Wrong. Microsoft is actually in the midst of its largest hiring spree for its Mac Business Unit (Mac BU) since its inception eleven years ago. The team, responsible...
Filed under: WWDC , Interviews , Developer Dave and Roustem from Agile Web Solutions , authors of the form-filling powerhouse known as 1Password , were happy to talk about WWDC, Mac development and the future of 1Password and its upcoming iPhone counterpart. We've taken quite a few notes as 1Password has developed, and while I love the iPhone bookmarklet , I'm excited to see work being done on a native...
Mac OS X 10.6, aka Snow Leopard, was announced last week at Apple’s developer conference and there are few details creeping out from under the developer non-disclosure agreements. Mac enthusiast sites are busy posting conjectures that fill in some of the blanks, including which processors that will run it, its performance, or whether it will run on the PowerPC.A French Mac enthusiast site shows
